Bolted Connection - Add fastener

Hello all

I’m in a Bolted Connection command trying to add a fastener. After picking the ANSI Unified Screw Threads (as Thread) and selecting to add a fastener (Hex Head – Flanged Bolts from the Bolts Category) it gives me three options. I would like to pick one from a sub folder of that but always picking stuff stops at the first level. Is that how it works?

This is about Inventor ANSI of Content Center provided with 2020 release.

Please see the video attached for more info.

Thank you for helping out.

Hi, correct me if I am seeing this wrong, but in your video it looked like the termination you selected was perpendicular to the start plane?  Could this be messing up the selection somehow, or am I just seeing it wrong.  Maybe I need more coffee....

In  your video, you had selected ANSI screw threads and size of .25".  The bolt connection filters out all the hex head flanged bolts that are not ANSI or .25".   If you change your size to a #10 size, you will see that your available options go from 3 to 2.  Same if you change from Ansi to Metric - the available bolts will change to match the metric standard.

Hi Aaron

Thank you for your answer. You are correct, #10 would show only two available choices which makes sense.

I dont understand why doesn't show other options of the sub folders available for Hex Head - Flanged Bolts. See in my video when I'm in content center, there are two folders named Self Tapping Screws and Sheet Metal Screws. Why dont I see options from these two? They both have bolts that match #10 or 0.25 in.

SO far, it filters choices only of the mail level of Hex Head - Flanged Bolts.

Thank you for looking at it.

Hi Chris

Selection was fine; actually, I dont think you can select a plane that's not parallel with the start plane.

Hmmm. . . Interesting.

Try looking into this.  Without more time, I suspect something in the thread designation is not matching what is in the thread.xls file.

Hi Radu,

I think I know where the issue is. The thread spec should be automatically populated in Bolt Conn dialog when a threaded hole is selected. The choice of available bolts to select is determined by the spec. It has to be exact match (unit, diameter, and length) in order to have a candidate CC family to appear. You can look at the CC family table. Likely, the missing families usually do not contain the exact spec.

The video you recorded shows the available inch-based spec bolts to the given hole. If you find a fitting bolt in a missing family, please let me know.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson

For 0.25 in (like in my video for the termination plane I select) there are several Nominal Length (in) values available (0.5, 0.75, 1 in) in the three families that are displayed in the dialog box.

Go to the sub folder <Self Tapping Screws> and look at Plain Indented Hex Washer Type F - inch. This family has the exact match of unit, nominal diameter and nominal length.

Maybe there are other requirements? more parameters to be met besides these three?

Thank you again

Hello,

see please my similar post - Bolted Connection is based on Content Center search functionality, means Bolted Connection searches in Content Center bolts/washer/nuts based on user/hole criteria, but not all bolts/washer/nuts categories are searched in.

See please the https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/fasteners-in-content-centre-not-all-available-in-bolte...

Hi Jan

I looked at your post, I only need a bolt (our custom bolt) and hole to be created, that;s all.

In my presentation, I found that a bolt that is part of the Content Center library but placed in the subfolder Self Tapping Screw (of Hex Head - Flanged) is not showing up in the box.

That is 1/4 - 20 UNC x 0.5

Thank you for your help.

Thank you Johnson.

As I mentioned to Jan, that bolt that is part of the regular CC is almost identical with one in the first level but it's not ever picked...

If you figure out what are the criteria that bolts are selected will be great!

Have a great weekend!
