Start sketch and view cube orientation

I am creating templates for a project and the orientation is important. (Note Inventor 2015 user here!)

I have successfully changed my part template file so that the view cube is at its home position with axis in my preferred directions.

But-

Why, when I click start sketch does it not show the planes in my preferred home position? Instead it shows Y up with z to the left and x to the right. See images below of what I see and what I want it to be..what screen looks like when I hit start sketchwhat screen looks like when I hit start sketchWhat I want my screen to look like when I hit sketch (ie aligned to home orientation)What I want my screen to look like when I hit sketch (ie aligned to home orientation)

Hi! One more thing you may want to change in your template. Open the part template and turn all three origin planes visible. The view rotating behavior (default to Y axis up) is to ensure you have some geometry to pick when you create the very first sketch. As long as there is a piece of geometry to pick, the view would not rotate.

Please make the origin planes visible and you should see the desirable behavior.

Many thanks!

Hi John,

Thanks for your help- that solves half my question 🙂 The start sketch no longer jumps the graphics to the default position which is great.

Now the planes are visible when I start the part and hence the sketch- but now I see the top view and I'd like to create a new part and see the isometric home view ideally.

(Now I understand this home iso view would still be there when I hit start sketch as I have plane visibility on).

Is there a template/ manage/ tools setting so that I can do that?

This is what happens nowThis is what happens nowWhat I want my screen to look like when I hit sketch (ie aligned to home orientation)What I want my screen to look like when I hit sketch (ie aligned to home orientation)

Hi! Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Sketch -> uncheck "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation or edit."

Many thanks!

In the model browser, expand the Origin folder, and select the YZ plane, the XZ plane, and the XY plane.  Right click and select Visibility.  Now the origin planes are visible.

Hi SBix26.

It is sufficient to have only one plane visible so that the reference system does not rotate when the sketch command is launched

Bye and thanks for the illuminating tip.
