Black sphere appears in assembly

Hi,

Sometimes in my assembly, a black sphere appears, but when I zoom in it disappears again.

Why is it and how do I get rid of it?

What graphics card/driver version? Have you updated it recently to the latest from the card manufacturers site?

What settings do you have in tools..application options..hardware tab?

And what about the tools..application options.. display tab (settings for min frame rate, display quality, disable automatic refinement checkbox?)

That is most certainly a graphics issue resolved likely by a change in driver/card or setting from above..

I have a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 with driver version 443.18 (latest update)

min frame rate=8Hz, display quality=smoother, Disable Automatic Refinement = unchecked

When I checked the Disable Automatic Refinement box it disappeared!

THANKS ALOT!

@mcgyvr

While working with the model the sphere appeared again.

This time it doesn't hide when I zoom in. It appeared after adding another part to the assembly and rotated the different joints. One of my colleagues has the same issue in a totally different assembly but in this case, it has a different shape, size and color.

Which environment do you have activated? Is it possible that the sphere is an IBL enviromnent?

If you set this to "Default Lights" does the sphere disappear? (ha ha that rhymes!)

Hi @Anonymous

It looks like spurious geometry resulting from a bad or corrupt body in your assembly. Typically we see this with imported components which contain sliver faces. While it's mostly an an artifact of bad rendering, there are some cases where the face has incorrectly overshot it's bounds.

Here's what I would try:

1. Open the Assembly

2. Hit Ctrl+F7

3. This will check your bodies and throw up a dialog showing you if there are any bad bodies

4. If you see any bad bodies, try to isolate them and turn their visibility OFF and see if the problem goes away

Second Option

1. Start turning off components in the vicinity of the badness one by one

2. If the sphere goes away, then the last component turned OFF may be the culprit

If this turns out to be a bad or corrupt body here are some ways to fix it

1. Open the part

2. If it's a native part, you can try to find the feature which caused the badness and suppress it or remodel it

3. If it's an imported part, try to repair it using the repair environment - repair is available on the context menu

4. OR you can try to reimport it or ask your source for a cleaner version.

5. If it's a native part, you should be able to find the feature which caused the badness

Thanks

Default light didn't do the trick. 🤔

Thanks for your detailed explanation. It was a bad imported part that gave me trouble.

I ended up repairing it which solved it.
