Autodesk Inventor 2017 Unable to open

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to run autodesk inventor 2017 with service pack 1 on a windows 10 PC. When I open it, the splashscreen appears and the loading bar begins to fill to about 1/4 of the way thre, and the program suddenly crashes to autodesk error report. I have already cleanly installed, but it has fixed nothing.

I have attached the .dmp and .tmp file that the inventor error report linked me to, but I have had to rename them to .txt files to post them on this forum.

The actual DUMP file is useless unless you have VB Studio and the actual Inventor source code..  Smiley Very Happy

The other file indicates an exception code which means you may have something bad in your OS..

Bring up the Windows Event log and look in the Application section and see if there are any event logs around the time when the product crashes.

Did it ever work?

Did it even activate?

Can you tell me about your video card and driver?

Nothing is working yet, I can't even get to the launch menu.

I am using an AMD R9 270 and my drivers are up to date according to device manager

Based on the three crash reports I see from you in the last 24 hours, their is an issue with Inventor, InfoCenter, and the .NET framework.   I would try performing a repair on the .NET install to see if that addresses the problem.

First thing..  Never rely on Windows telling you your video driver is up-to-date.  Go directly to the Vendor's web site and confirm.

Secondly the dll that is indicated in the event log seems to be related to C++.  So most likely you have C++ installation problems on your machine..  Follow the steps in this article and report back on your progress.

Update:  Or take @pdxmcad advice because they (Autodesk)  Smiley Very Happy have the insight to the Inventor source code...

Thank you all for the tips, I will uninstall all of my .NET programs and keep you posted on the results.

I reinstalled all my C++ programs, and still no dice.

What are the chances the problem is related to MS visual studio? There has been some strange things going on over there recently, and I have already reinstalled that.

Other things I also did to fix this is I:

  1. Clean Reinstall of all autodesk software
  2. Reinstalled Microsoft Visual Studio
  3. Reinstalled all Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables from 2005 to 20015 for both 32 and 64 bit
  4. Reinstalled my .NET framework

Thanks everyone for your help
