AutoCAD 2021 Layer Colors Converted From Index Color To True Color When Drawing Is Opened In Inventor 2021

Currently, our company drawing workflow is to create drawings in Inventor and then use Inventor and AutoCAD to finish the drawings. We recently migrated to Inventor 2021 and AutoCAD 2021. We are having an issue with AutoCAD 2021 layer colors being converted from index color to true color when drawing is opened in Inventor 2021. This did not happen with previous versions of Inventor or AutoCAD. I'm thinking it's either a bug in software or a setting that needs to be adjusted.

Thank you,

Hi! The behavior does not sound right to me. I was aware of an issue the other way around (Inventor idw/dwg exported to AutoCAD with incorrect color index). Please share an example that exhibits the behavior here. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi! I see the issue now. Inventor does support AutoCAD Index Color in drawing environment. You can map it to AIC via Export to AutoCAD workflow.

Many thanks!

Yes, but I do not want to export to AutoCAD from Inventor. This wasn't an issue with 2020.

Hi Steve,

This is surprising. I was not aware that the issue did not exist on 2020. Something is wrong. I need to check with the project team.

Many thanks!

Hi Steve,

From the video, there is an inconsistent behavior in AutoCAD when read dwg file if it is opened in Inventor or not. I test this case, I meet the same issue in  AutoCAD 2020.

Do you mind to share a testing file, which works well in 2020, but fails in 2021 ?

Fred,

This video demonstrates that Inventor 2020 does not convert AutoCAD 2020 index colors to true colors when going back and fourth from Inventor 2020 to AutoCAD 2020 or vice versa. We also had no issues with prior versions of Inventor and AutoCAD e.g. 2019 versions.

Hi! I just checked the defect status. There isn't much progress to report. The latest discussion seems to indicate the issue happened in a shared component used by multiple Autodesk products. Some further investigation is needed.

Many thanks!

Reading thru this conversation I'm running into the same problem using Inventor 2022 & AutoCAD 2022. Has their been any resolution to this issue?  The Exporting idea works but not for templates in Inventor and it's very cumbersome to do when I have to bring drawings into AutoCAD for plotting at multiple design stages of review 10%, 60%, 100%, Issue for Construction, and As-Built w/ field comments.  That's a lot of exporting!  Any info would be helpful.
