Auto Populate File Name on Export / Print

I have to constantly export PDFs, DXFs, and STPs for work. The name field is always blank and I have to fill it in with the file name. Is there anyway to set Inventor so that it always uses the file name when I export / print a file?

Using File > Export > CAD Format, then changing the file type to .stp for example works in Inventor 2021 and uses the Inventor file name within that field as you are expecting.

How are you completing that process and what version of Inventor are you using?

I'm using Inventor Professional 2022, using the exact same process.

You can use iLogic rules to export to any type of file (possible by Inventor, of course) and using lot's of configurations, to the exported file, for example by Part Number, File Name, or even combinations with iProperties, parameters etc.

In Autodesk app store you can also find some app to do that, search there:
Here's an example:

Right I know I can use iLogic, but this seems super basic and like it should be the default to name your exported files by the file name. I'm making sure there isn't a much easier way to get this done within Inventor, like an application option?

Even worst... you have to write the extension!!!!!...

Unfortunately, there's no application option for that...

I used to click in the part file, to get the name, then i change the extension... 😑

As long as the ipt, iam, idw file is saved, the name show up in export, save as etc.

That might be the key right there.  It has to be saved first as an Inventor file type.

These are parts that have already been saved as Inventor file types. What version are you using?

Did you save the drawing before export?

I'm using 2023 but I believe it's like that since R1.

Unless you have a broken version.

Now that you mention it, I'm able to get the file name when I export as a step, and when I click "export pdf" instead of "print". But still no dice for DXFs.

Ok, if you're saving DXF from face or flat, that won't work.

I usually copy the file name before do that.

You can export idw to PDF.  Instead of Print.
