Looking for some support on removing the auto-expand feature in the browser when the mouse is over the icon. Since IV selects the way it does, i live with my mouse over the browser (for the most part) - this means that the freakin parts in the browser are opening all over the place and when i go to click on the part i want, its off the freakin screen now!!!!
Does anyone use this feature or can Adesk remove it and fill it with something a bit more usefull.. perhaps scrolling capabilities while over the browser??? No... that would make too much sense.

I do use this one and a while. However I
never keep my pointer over the icon, only the file name. Then I never get
unwanted expanding of parts, only when I want them

I'm assuming this is an XPism. Would HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Change the value of "FriendlyTree" to 0 fix the problem?

I'm not sure if that would fix the problem, but it's not an XPism. It's an
IVism. A new "feature"

I dont purposely hold my mouse over the icon but it ends up there anyways!! Useless, useless, useless - if i want to see whats in there - i will click on the + .

Personally, I waste many more clicks closing those buggers than I ever did
opening them. I try to keep the cursor off the icon, but it still seems to
end up there often enough to make more unwanted expansions.

I would be happy to see it go away and also the have the automatic
horizontal scroll go with it. Like others, I spend more time
contracting the browser than I do expanding it.

heard about he last time I took something out 😉

MicroSoft never did the auto-expand thing - but
then it showed up and we all thought it'd be cool, so it got added. I checked
this afternoon to see if we made the delay variable or accessible (or tied it to
a registry setting).

We didn't.

Its hard coded.

I suspect that the easiest thing to do would be to
make the pause value a variable and then expose the variable on one of the
options tabs - then you could just turn it off.

smaller (say decrementing my point size or something) until "leaf node" parts
"disappeared" and you were left looking a subassemblies, etc... Sort of a "level
of detail" behavior for the browser.

One of the projects being looked at is targeting
increased performance via evaluation of "levels of detail" of the parts of the
assembly. I suspect that as this project moves forward (along with others in the
planning stages) there will be browser changes.

When those happen - it would be good to have some
sort of "concensus" on the auto-expand pause thing.

Cool idea ... like a map, I guess: roll the mouse wheel forward (away from
you) you only see top-level browser entries, hover over an entry, roll the
mouse wheel back, you see top & lower-level entries; something like that.

Variable would probably win any consensus, but too long a RMB/context menu
comes to mind. I think it would be cool to have a RMB/context dialog box
(App/Ops) to set stuff the way you want it to work, making it easier to
change (like project sketch geometry/don't project it that I go to App/Ops
for often). But then, I guess there's still the question of the missing
dialog box guy, eh.

Some good ideas Gary. I like the zoom one 8^)

IMO if there is any doubt give us a way to adjust a setting. I would much
rather have to spend a little time up front getting all my settings set the
way I want them, than have behavior hard coded. I like options, they allow
me to work the way I like to work, not the way someone else things we should
work.

I really like the split idea. So often I want the origin geometry and some
other part at the bottom displayed at the same time.

Unless this means we won't be getting the rearrange back in which case this
would not be an acceptable workaround (IMHO)

I concur with you Kent.

One example is the zoom to the mouse location rather than the centre of
the screen. I know I was one of the many users who begged for that and
REALLY and TRULY APPRECIATED that we were listened to. Some users
thought it sucked, complained and thankfully Sean iTweaked the previous
behaviour in for them. We really have to feel for the developers in
cases like this where you just can't satisfy everyone.

The bottom line is we all have preferences (some of them very strong)
and by providing us with options you can satisfy users with opposing
viewpoints.

I didn't even notice it was autoexpanding. Is this just a problem for spaceball or other advanced input device users? I use the mouse to pick select grab drag and otherwise manipulate things so it doesn't get parked in the browser.

It does it on Win2K also.

Hover over a collapsed part or assembly *icon* in the browser. After a
second or two it will expand.

Personally it never bothered me but I'm all for options.
