Assembly Browser Display Part Number by Default?

All,

Good morning!  I was asked recently if Inventor's Assembly Browser could display Part Numbers by default.  Currently, every time that I place a new component, it defaults to displaying the file name and then I have to run the Rename Browser Nodes command.  I'm not seeing a way around this, but wanted to see if anybody else knew a way (or is a better Google searcher than I am).  Thanks in advance for any advice, hope all else is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

I've always used part number as file name.

Understood, but not all users operate Inventor that way.  For example, some people may have a filename of "10-32x1_PN_HD_MS", but the part number may be something like "F00001".  Personally speaking, I prefer to see the filename, but I have a user who wanted to list the Part Numbers, without having to use the "Rename Browser Nodes" command.

Take a look at this thread.

The concept is the same, but in the iLogic routine, you might be able to swap out the description of part number.

Other then that, not really a way to do what you are asking.

@petestrycharske

And can you add an image of how it is now and what you want to get? I don't really understand from the description.

Same issue here, have to keep pushing the 'rename browser nodes button' every time I create a new assembly within the assembly, otherwise it will just be named 'assembly1'  instead of the name that I gave it (for instance frame.left).

What I want is for inventor to show the partnumber or even filename in the browser by default instead of just 'assembly1' which really doesn't help me identify the (sub)assembly.

How do you change  this setting in a way that it will automatic show the filename or partnumber in the browser??

I dont want to keep pushing the 'rename browser nodes' button every time, don't like it.

@info  How are you creating this new subassembly? If using the "Create" button you can set the filename upon creation which will show up in the model browser by default. So "Filename" IS default already..

Or is this maybe an issue specific to frame generator? Are you using that?

Most of the time I'll just be creating parts in an assembly.

Whenever I have to many parts I'll start making sub-assemblies by selecting multiple parts together and right mouse click, choose 'component' and then choose 'demote'. Inventor will open a dialog box in which I give the new sub-assembly (.iam) its name.

This name does not pop up in the browser by default. It will just be named "Assemby1".

I need to change this default setting in a way that inventor will show the filemane or even the partname in the browser without selecting 'rename browser nodes' every time.
