View representations problem after part edit

Hi,

I am using view representations in order to hide certain parts in my drawing sheets.

I recently updated one of the hidden parts and now it is appearing in all my sheet views, completely disregarding the active view rep.

I now find myself having to into each view and changing the view rep, and then going back into each view to re-select the view rep in order for the part to re-disappear.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Anthony

Are the representations used in the views set as Associative?

Thanks for the quick reply.

They weren't set to associative, however selecting this does fix the problem.

Should I therefore always use associativity with view reps?

There may be some odd exceptions, but I would generally say yes.

If you don't set it as Associative, you're telling Inventor "Make it look like this View Rep looks now, but but don't update if the View Rep changes."  At least for the way I tend to set things up, it is rare that I would want that.  I tend to use the View Representations to completely control my component visibility and appearances.  Having it only partially control them seems awkward to me.

Ok that's good to know. I will certainly be using associative view reps from now on, which is what I actually wanted to do from the start.

Thanks again

Additional information: options in the Place View dialog box persist (but not those in the Edit View dialog).  So if you place a base view, and before finishing, click on the Associative check box, it will always place base views with that option checked by default.  Likewise for other options in the place view dialog, and likewise for placing other kinds of views.

Hope that's useful.
