Application Options File Open setting being Overridden

My team and I have recently run into an annoying bug in Inventor (2025.3). We're updating out company set Application Options; specifically the 'File Open Options' found in App. options > File > File Open... > Assembly

By default, it is set to Last Active. We want it to be set to [Primary]. We choose that setting and try to open a model not already in the primary model state. However it fails and continues to open models in that last active state. We double-check the setting, and it does stick; HOWEVER, if we close and re-open inventor the setting reverts back to Last Active.

We can, when opening a file, manually select the options and choose primary or any other model state. That will work and open the desired model state.

Anybody else experiencing this or know of a way to fix it?

Hi Jack,

The behavior does not sound right. I am able to reproduce it on 2025.3 and 2026.1. I am working with the project team to understand it better.

Many thanks!

Hello, Just wondering if the project team have been able to isolate this. If it does get fixed, will it get updated in the 2025 version or just the 2026?

Hi Jack,

Unfortunately, we have not  yet been able to identify the culprit. It is indeed reproducible. Please feel free to contact Autodesk Product Support and escalate it.

Many thanks!
