I know this has been an issue since 2016 came out, but I haven't been able to find any solution. Only promises that it will be address in the next service pack or update.

Any update on the "Fade Animation" feature not rendering in the final image/animation?

MY SITUATION:

I have been creating an animation with several arrows moving and fading in and out. I also had some stationary panels that faded out to 0% in order to show the internal flow with moving arrows. Everything was going fine untill today when I started rendering the final video. THe fade animation feature does not translate into the final rendered animation any longer. This is strange as it was working before and I did several videos that had the fade effect working perfectly. I did not change any setting that would have affected the fade animation feature to the best of my knowledge.

Using 2017.

Thank you,

P.H.

PH, Based on what has been done so far to address the issue I would expect a solution NEVER and suggest finding another program to accomplish your needs as far as animations go if fading is required..

The ‘Fade’ effect is extremely processor-intensive in Inventor, especially if used in a rendered animation.

Earlier last year I’ve tested this effect in Inventor 2017, soon after it was released – see my post here:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/friday-pictures-5-13-16/m-p/6324704#M594986

This example has 8 parts fading to 0 visibility.

I’ve noticed that Fade effect works correctly, but only when used in ‘Preview: No Render’ mode. In this mode, as there is no reflective interaction between the parts, we could create a decent animation, at a reasonably good quality.

However, when trying to Render, the air gaps between the fully faded parts will appear black (or remain visible in some other colours), and some other unwanted artefacts may appear – such as shadows/reflections of faded parts. This 'shortfall' has not been fixed yet, and, like @mcgyvr said earlier, I don’t expect it to be fixed anytime soon. It could be way too complex to resolve all decals, shadows, reflections, bumps, and other lighting effects that interact and are affected by Fade.

So, if Fade is essential to your animation, I would recommend staying with ‘Preview: No Render setting’.

Alternatively, the fade effect can be created in post-processing, using a good third-party video editor that can support video compositing, separate layers, masks, etc.

Having the same issue on 2017.  My animated fade DID work perfectly - even in the rendered output.  Then, suddenly it quit working, and on random parts.  The parts all fade in and out perfectly until 99% faded, but on hitting 0%, they magically reappear 100% solid.  Sometimes I can get them to fade to zero by switching timings and percentages, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the output.
