Adesk bashing

I've been extremely busy lately and havn't participated in this forum for a while. What I notice reading through here today is A LOT of very negative comments. I want to put my 2 cents in.

First of all it is to our advantage to have Autodesk employees participate in this group. Most of them do it because they WANT to, as volunteers. If we just bash their work constantly in a non-constructive way it will only encourage them to ignore this forum.

Secondly Rome wasn't built in a day. Inventor has had some problems, we all know that. Shapemanager is an example of Autodesk taking a major step to solve a problem. It will take time, you don't fix up somebody elses kernal with a decade of bugs in it within a few months. Autodesk has taken some major steps in other areas too to address key issues. It will take time for the changes to have an effect on things howerver. My point is things are being addressed but it takes time for the changes to occur.

Finally I'm sure somebody can read back through the posts and find times when I bashed Autodesk as well. We all get frustrated but lets all try and focus on being constructive.

I cycled through a few local VARS and then after a
duration of pain switched to someone that is a four hour drive away and
have been happy ever since.  Heck they could be twenty hours away and I
could care less.  Wether I am talking on the phone to someone across the
town or across the country what is important is that they have an answer when
you call or at least can get one.

Apparently the regs exist to prevent specifically

To see HOW something should work! I made a suggestion that they should hire
or invite some ME to sit down at the Autodesk site and use the product 8 -10
hours a day and when something didn't work, they could look up the developer
and "discuss" it with them. The QA manager drooled over the idea, but knew
it would never get funded. This newsgroup is the next best thing.

Note: Autodesk is waiting for us to produce the fix by opening up their software for you. They did it before with Mechanical Desktop and AutoCAD then either took or purchased it from other sources, why would they not go about this now, it worked in the past and still to this day the 2d program is stated as one of the best ever produced. Now as the question has been asked "Why did they completely diverted from the original?” In earlier releases of Inventor we were not able to convert 2d drawings and now it has more to desire. Why did they replace AutoCAD 2d with ?… to put it another way Autodesk now ships with Inventor their other cad products, somewhere along the line somebody within may have actually thought about it but still could not be convincing enough to make that leap. I still have not been convinced that Inventors 2d part (idw) is the way they should continue go, it would be interesting to be a fly listening to any arguments on this in those meeting rooms between MD and IV developers. My point was by just going part way with the software or features leaves room for others outside of Autodesk to correct or make it better and if you do it right it could make you rich and/or proud that that the add on feature was the one you produced. I’ve put my opinions in this group before trying to improve Inventor, but nothing should be done to improve the auto shutdown feature it works just fine, and I hope Autodesk continues to read into these forums. The QA Manager even went so far as to tell me what Microsoft does. He said
they actually attach electrodes to people and video tape them to get their
initial reaction to the things they are doing.

Side note: Did you get my follow-up email about the engine work?

Many of the discussions such at this one are forwarded way up the
ladder. I know this one was/is .

It is also appreciated that this discussion had been conducted on
a very businesslike level and not a flame war.

I had asked a certain Marketing Manager if there was something we could do
to reward certain people on the newsgroups. He said sure, get their address
and we will send them an official MDT t-shirt or something. So I did all
the leg work gathering address and then sent them to him and like the rest,
waited and waited and waited.. Then he got let go.. which is another story
all by itself.

Yes I did. I'm sorry. It got lost in the jumble. I'm afraid I'm a bit

LOL - Was that the Blue MDT 4 shirt? I offered mine to Quinn - but I'd be
happy to send it on to anyone else who wants it - if QBZ doesn't want it
of course. Or did I get that shirt from a user group meeting?

I also have a windbreaker in the closet from the leading competitor CAD
package. They sent that to me just for beta'ing their edrawing thing.

Is it only my imagination, or have the autodesk-folks been much more active
since this thread started?

Maybe they just all of a sudden got some free time....

You have to admit this is probably the longest thread we have maintained
without getting off topic.

You mean we maintained it until we did go off topic?

regarding bashing Adesk...

A good thing regarding R7 just popped into my head.
I like the changes they made to the threads.xls file. Makes me think they
added the UNM threads just for me 🙂
