Your project is (read only), do you still have documents open?
Are you the only one using that project file?
(guess so, since it doesn't appear to be on a network location)

Try restarting inventor and see if you can edit it then.
Also might help if it isn't the active project.

Hi Niels

I don't have files open

Cant_Add_Path.png

and this is a stand alone machine and licence.  I have just booted after being away for a while and I get the same result - even when I make another project active.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Can you define more than 1 general workspace folder anyway? I am pretty sure this option is a 1 path option only, since it defines the main (unique) workspace. If you need to add additional paths\folders you need to do that in Workgroup-Searchpaths (i dunno if thats the correct translation got GER version here) one row below Workspace.

You're right, only 1 workspace and other locations defined as "Workgroup Search Paths". (you translated correct)

@Vagulus
In the really tiny screenshot i can't see the (read only) anymore, so it should be editable in the way hweier mentions.

I'd like to try that admaiora, but I can't

AAA.png

beause 'Workgroup Search Paths' is deactivated.

However, The problem is resolved because I had put the new folder I wanted in the wromg place.  Shifted it and all is well.

Sorry to be a bother to everyone in this instanceSmiley Embarassed, but I would still like to know how to add and new folder (not a child of the current root folder) to the path.

Is that possible?

"Workgroup search paths" is deactivated because there are none, just right-click on it and "add path" should be available.

This topic is confusing to me, can somebody clarify please?

AutoDesk states following "Avoid the use of Workgroups altogether where possible."

My setup is following:

- I have network based STEP model

- I've created new project which has to be shared through the network for other colleagues.

- I'm using STEP model as reference model to build main assembly and parts.

My issues is that when colleagues are opening project file to work with the assembly, they always miss reference STEP file. We dont want to move STEP file to project location, its has to be remotely stored.

How extra network locations can be added to the project, if AD advises not to use workgroups? Libraries are not suitable, because they are not editable. What is the right workflow. Thanks

Seems to me that a STEP model that is kept in a separate location for reference is exactly what libraries are made for.  Is the STEP model to be editable?  If so, why is it kept as a STEP file?

Hi! I am not sure I saw a statement from Autodesk saying Workgroup Search Path should be avoided. If yes, please let me know. Workgroup Search Path is quite similar to Library Path. The difference is that one can be edited but the other one isn't.

Many thanks!

What we want to achieve is at the final stage break link to STEP file and have all its parts converted to IV files.

STEP model is in development stage, so we are getting new revisions from 3rd party. STEP file does not need to be editable directly, but we might need to extract some components out of it as IV models. If we use libraries folders, then "break link" option is not working. So we have to use Workgroup, but that is not advised.

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the link! The statement seems contradicting to my understanding. I need to double-check with the project team and confirm the behavior.

Thanks again!
