3D PDF Export fails

Hello,

I am having problems with the Export to PDF function. I load one of the Inventor sample models, blower.iam into Inventor 2017, and try to export to 3D PDF,  I get a list of errors and no PDF.  I am attaching the a screen shot of the version of Inventor I am using, a screen shot of the errors that were displayed and the zipped .iam file.

Regards,

Phil Spreier

I've done a 2000 and 3000 part full machine on my system.

I'm using the newest 3d PDF's and R3 ..

I've found issues if you have certain types of parts with the same part numbers. Like an angle that says  part 1.ipt and a tube that is part 1.ipt too.

My complete assembly has like 40 major components and all are a unique part number and still, it gives me an error during the 3d pdf generation.

@Anonymous, Correct - which is why I clearly stated "If you had the Tetra4D..." A purchase that was already made, that could still be used currently. If the 3D PDF exporter in Inventor doesn't work, you will need a 3rd party solution. Tetra4D works for 2016; it has bugs for the 2017 version that have not been addressed to date.

Thank you!...yes few of my team have tetra and the tetra works great in 2017 too..so for time being those users are using tetra..and I am using the round about way with 3d pdf.

But tetra works fine with 2017 also. we have no issues on converting using TETRA 3D.

@Anonymous;@kennyj,

Hi Guys! There is definitely room for improvement in every corner of Inventor. 3D PDF Export is not an exception. 2017 R3 Update should have addressed a lot of problems existing in 2017 RTM. Could you share the files with us? If yes, please send me an email ([email protected]) and I will set up secure accounts for you to upload.

Many thanks!

For me, it was a set of components that had a Plate(1) texture attached to the material, which happens if you're not careful editing.  In my case, Plate(1) came over from Inventor 2015's library edits, and was not in the 2017 library.  I did not test the default Plate texture to see if this also caused an error.

My 3D export works. Unfortunately I'm experience issues with the " Design Representation Views" option. It's not carrying over the View reps.

Anyone experience this problem? I'm using 2017 IV Pro.

Also, Anyone know if 2018 integrated a "Level of Detail" option?

Thanks,

OJ

Hi Oj,

Are you on 2017 R4 update? It should work a lot better than 2017 RTM. Could you share an example of Design View not exporting to 3D PDF? You can send it to me directly ([email protected]).

Regarding LOD support, unfortunately it is not yet supported on 2018 either. You could right-click on a LOD of interest -> Copy to Design View and then export the Design View.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue - it could be the lack of the R4 update. I'll give that a try seeing that my company doesn't do the best Job at pushing updates.

As your LOD method I figured that's what I had to do. I'll give these tips a try and follow up

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it.

@johnsonshiue - Is there anyway to directly download service packs. I'm having issues with the Autodesk App, and it is stalling/freezing during the installation process. It's done this several times before.

My problems have turned out to be much worse.  It appears that ANY change to a material appearance in the user's library will break 3D PDF export of all items with that appearance. (i.e. if you edit a material and save it back to the Inventor Library and choose to overwrite existing assets.)  Any affected material must be deleted from the part file and re-added to allow 3D PDF to function.

Hi! The behavior does not sound right to me. Nor am I aware of such behavior. Could you provide an example so I can take a closer look ([email protected])?

Many thanks!

I have run into this; you must delete the library file from the project in both the Appearance and the Material library section after making a change. Then reload the updated library back into both, and it seems to work. Just editing the library or replacing only the library section of the project does not work. Hope this helps!

Hi, all!  I'm piggy-backing onto an old post, as I'm having 3D PDF export problems.  I made a new post, but now it seems to have disappeared... oh, well....

I have Inventor R2019, "build 136", it doesn't say what service pack, though.

Windows 10 Pro

NVIDIA Quadro P2000

My issue is, when I export a 3D pdf, it creates the pdf, but it has no graphics.  The iProperty information comes in, but it doesn't show any of the view rep information, and the grafix area is white.  I spoke to an AutoDesk tech support rep, and they couldn't get it to work, either.  Anyone else having this issue?  Any ideas??

Thanx, Ed

Hi! You mentioned you contacted Autodesk Support. Do you have a Case ID or Defect ID? Have you shared a file? In the meantime, please install 2019.4 update followed by 2019.4.1 update and see if it works better.

Many thanks!

Hi Colin,

This particular error message does not sound familiar to me. If possible, please share the files in zip here or send it to me directly [email protected]. I would like to understand the 3D PDF export failure better.

Many thanks!
