3D Model from Nest not linked to parent part.

When I update parts from the parent file, all components within the nesting study get updated as well (cool).

However, if I create a 3D model from one of the nested sheets, the 3D model does not update (not cool). Is there any way to link the 3D model back to the parent file?

It appears the "Create 3D Model" feature generates a brand new part file that is unrelated to the parent parts.

I am experimenting with the CAM feature in inventor. My goal is to have toolpaths automatically updated to any part changes prior to machining on every sheet, rather than re-creating a 3D model and re-applying toolpaths.

Thanks!

Hi @afinemann ,

there is a workaround to use the 3d model created with updated design model. please have a try:

  • after create 3d model, generate toolpath, save the iam file;
  • close all open files
  • Edit and save design file, update nesting result, then re-create 3d model
  • reopen the iam file saved in step1; then will see the updated design model included. here you will see toolpath out of date, update it should work.

hope it helps.

thanks,

Amy
