2021 Assemblies opened in 2022 is not showing Model States

Some of my 2021 assemblies are not displaying Model States, such as this one:

2021-04-13 107.jpg

In this particular assembly, all of the sub-assemblies have converted correctly, and there are no errors when saving or checking in.

What might cause this, and more importantly, how do I get it to convert correctly?

Thank you.

I see a 3rd party folder... Is that assembly an imported step file or similar?

If not what is in that 3rd party folder?

Does that only happen with files that have the 3rd party folder?

  1. Yes
  2. Step translation report (from SolidWorks)
  3. Yes, so far. I have not checked all of my assemblies, though

Just to be clear, I had no issues with this step file in 2021. This appeared after the 2022 upgrade.

So maybe "Model States" aren't possible with imported models.. Just native Inventor files?

Could just be a "limitation" with them now..

Autodesk will confirm shortly..

@johnsonshiue  This a limitation? or something else?

No. I imported a step file into 2022, and the browser shows this:

2021-04-13 110.jpg

(This happens to be another 2021 assembly I am having problems with).

The issue seems to lie with step files that have been imported into 2021 (successfully, I might add) but get corrupted when the 2021 file is opened in 2022.

Ok.. Johnson should be along shortly and can enlighten us..

If not a bug or limitation we might need to see your files..

Do you have an assembly (and its parts) that you can share that shows this issue?

I can share with Autodesk, but not publicly.

Hi! The behavior does not look right to me. Please send the files (zipped) to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi Stephen,

Many thanks for sharing the files with me! If I recall correctly, Frame Gen, Tube&Pipe, and Cable&Harness subassemblies do not have Model States folder. It is because Model States workflows are not supported within such environment. Was the particular iam file used to be a Frame Gen, Tube&Pipe or Cable&Harness subassembly?

Many thanks!

No, it is a standard assembly. What does your model browser display?

Hi Stephen,

This is a bug. It looks like the 3rd-party folder creating some confusion. If you right-click on the sub-node under 3rd-party folder, Inventor will crash. Something is wrong. We are actively investigating the issue. It should be fixed in the coming updates to 2022.

Many thanks!
