2019 - trouble with sheet metal rip

Rip command will not let me pick the second point when using point-to-point option. Will let me pick the outside corner where the bend is, but won't pick the inside corner. Any ideas why?

Thanks,

Allen

Hi Allen,

This seemingly simple case is actually tricky to handle. The issue here is that Rip command was not designed to rip this kind of face (an inner loop and multiple bends). Instead of using Rip command, I use Extrude command to cut the face. Then use Corner Seam command to create the desirable corners. Please take a look at attached part.

Many thanks!

It does seem simple. That's why I couldn't believe it didn't work. Is it because I used the Loop option to select edges for the Fillet command? I will try it again later and select individual edges for Fillets.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Allen,

No, you did not do anything wrong with the part. Rip command simply does not work that way. I think the issue is more about ripping the bend zone. In your case, the rips will definitely cut into the bend, which is not allowed.

Many thanks!
