I have a new Alienware computer with windows 10. I've installed and reinstalled revit 2016 several times, there seem to be no issues during installation. A Project file opens fine but after a couple commands or when attempting to save Revit hangs/freezes. Others with similar set ups to me seem to be having similar issues. Please help!
Hi curlyses,
Sorry to hear that your having issues running your product.
Have you tried updateing your video driver to the latest version available from your video card chipset manufacturer: NVIDIA Drivers or AMD Catalyst™ Drivers
Regards,
I've updated my graphics card with no change on Revit. I've also tried running in compatability mode for windows 7/8 but with no luck.
The hangs/freezes appear to be caused by pop-up windows (like the save as window) that come up with some commands. The pop-up windows remain invisible until I press the alt key to make the window appear, then the command/save can be completed as usual. Is there a fix that can make the pop-up windows appear as normal?
Hello
I am having the same problem. I work at a commercial firm. All the drivers etc are up to date. The installation is via a flash drive from Autodesk.
It seems to happen when I try get out of a group although it just happens suddenly with no specific action before the freeze.
I dont know if this makes a difference, but all the buttons at the top have greyed out.
Please can this be resolved? This is clearly a bug
Hello All
Have you tried applying the latest service pack:

Thank you for taking part in our community forum!
Kind Regards,
The hangs and freezes I found were caused by pop-up windows that stayed invisble on my screen, to get around this I pressed "alt" to make the window appear, and then I could complete the task as normal.
This was actually just a symtom of a larger problem I found with all autodesk products on new computers. New computer screens have too high of a resolution for autodesk products that are meant to work on something like a 1920 x 1080. My computer runs on a recomended setting of 3820 x 2160 with a 250% zoom. So in order for all of my autodesk products to work correctly I must change my settings to 1920 x 1080 with a 100% zoom, then sign out and back in, and THEN all my autodesk programs run smoothly. Hopefully this is just a temporary problem until autodesk updates to work with higher resolution computer screens.
Hello,
I've been using Revit for years, but I have never struggled like this before. I'm just getting problems since we migrated to 2016.
We are an Architectural practise designing residential apartments. Each single apartment is in a separate model group. Revit freezes out when trying to amend a group. Working with it is fine, but the problem comes up when trying to save it. The top tab menu becomes totally unavailable and grey; making me literally impossible to synch and save my changes. I had similar problems even with Detail groups.
I was working previously with to different screens and I read that the problem could come from there. I have now two exact same screen models. I got the same issue. I have also tried to work with one screen. Same result.
This is what I get.
I can just manage to click on Alt, but I can't tick on anything apart from seeing the shortcut numbers. These are not practicable.
I heard about an invisible pop up menu but this is not an option to me. I haven't managed to figure out how to find it.
Can anyone assist?
Xavier
We are experiencing the same issues, the files hangs or takes 10 to 15 minutes to save. I think we are going to unistall 2016 R2 and go back to Service pack 2. we are having serious issues with printing and saving.
Thanks
Gustavo
BJ.C,
Xavier's experience is almost identical to my own. For a few month now (regardless of updates and patches) Revit 2016 intermittently freezes after finishing changes to groups. This is particularly distressing given that the model cannot be saved while in group editing mode. No precautions can be taken and there are no work arounds. I'm running Windows 7. The only detail I can add that seems possibly significant is feezes have all occured while Google Chrome is active. It's common for me to "Finish" a group in Revit then click over to Chrome to skim a web page while changes are being finalized.
It'd be great if Autodesk could give some indication they're working on the issue.
I do have worksets. We all have, regardless if we use them or not. Shared Levels and Grids and Workset1 are always there.
So, not sure what the solution can be. You mentioned the fact that this usually happens when Google Chrome is on. I'd like to think that it's just been a coincidence. But I'll give it a go next time this will happen.
I must say it's quite frustrating to lose my work because Revit is disliking model groups. I thought that the problem might come because we have upgraded the project from 2015 to 2016 and some groups created conflicts. So, I'm trying to ungroup them all and group them again in 2016.
So far so good.. but this is just an experiment. This shouldn't be happening.

Recent packs? is there anything else new? I have everything installed and I still get the same results.
Am I missing a service pack elsewhere apart from this?
