I keep receiving the message that license manager is not working or installed incorrectly any time I want to use autocad. I am currently working only on 30 day trial. Would you be able to help me with it?

Or any polish forums helping to solve this problems?

Thank you

Welcome to the community...

I assume you are seeing the message like as indicated in this article.   If that's the same please follow the suggestions.   But adjust the name and product key because you are running the 2018 version.

Good luck and report back on your progress.

Yes. I've read that article. It's helpful. But any positive results so far, I'm afraid. But thank you!

Try this...

Close the application

Please note, folders of C:\Programdata and C:\Users\[Username]\Appdata (listed below) are hidden folders and you may need to adjust your viewing settings.

On your computer, navigate to: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2018.0.0.F  [<Product Key> is the product key of the Autodesk Application you have]
Delete the LGS.data file.
Navigate to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ folder
Delete the ADUT folder and it's contents
Start the application.

When you start the application, it will prompt you to choose one of the following:

Login - 30 day trial and Clic licenses
Serial Number - Standalone and Single-User activation
Network - Network License server for obtaining licenses from a machine on your network

Choose the option that matches your license.

After installing AutoCAD 2018, I had the same issue:  "The License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed. AutoCAD will shut down now."

I (eventually) went to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\ and found that the installation program had created a folder with a name that had the wrong Product Key  (the Product Key used by the installation program was something like 919J1 and should in fact have been Product Key 001J1). Once I changed the product key, the AutoCAD program ran and I was able to put in the Authorization Code.  The correct path and folder was thus:   C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\001J1_2018.0.0.F

So I've gotten to this same point multiple times. I go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS and then it shows both 001J1 and one named 919J1. Did you just delete the 919J1 folder and leave the 001J1 folder in tact. Or did you follow the posts above and delete the LGS.DATA file within the folder?

Did yours even have the 001J1 folder to begin with?

Any advice would be great because I've tried every other option.

Product key 919J1 belongs to Recap Pro 2018.  Do you have that product installed?

In the 001J1 location is there a LGS.DATA file?  If there is, what does it state within that text file?

I believe Recap Pro 2018 installed with my AutoCAD 2018.

The LGS.DATA file says:  _STANDALONE

I've had 2014 versions of autocad run on this computer a long time ago. I tried to get 2017 earlier this year and got the same License Manager not working message, so I wonder if there is anything from and older version that would be causing this error.

Thanks for the quick response.

Hello

I'm running an ASUS laptop from 2012, loaded with CORE i7 Processor and 16GB RAM on windows 10 Home. I needed to do a fresh windows install recently and then, my Autodesk products, which include CIVIL 3D 2018, 3D Studio Max 2018, AutoCAD Raster Design and ReMake, all under the Student Licence.

First time I launched them 2 or 3 days ago, they worked fine and I've done all the licencing needed. Today I was to use AutoCAD and this problem appeared from nowhere.

I've done a complete uninstall of ALL of my Autodesk products and re-installed Civil 3D 2018. The installation was made from my computer since I downloaded the software from your servers recently instead of installing it directly. It went smoothly and I was asked for a restart after the install. Did the restart and when I started the AutoCAD I got this error again. This time, I did not get to do the Licence registry, it goes directly to this error and shuts itself down.

I've also looked for the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\ folder and found it EMPTY, no files or other folders in it. At the moment there is only the Civil 3D installed.

Where do I go from here?

Thank you for your help!

I ended up getting mine to work. I uninstalled ALL Autodesk products. Then I went through all C:\ProgramData and C:\Users\AppData folders and completely deleted any Autodesk folder files. It was a tedious process, but it worked.

I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but I can only guess that old data from a previous version I ran was causing problems.

Hope this helps.

I have actually done the same last night and it also SOLVED my problem.

Search and destroy... after uninstalling every Autodesk product with RevoUninstaller (it also cleans registry entries), I opened  windows explorer and in the search field I typed Autodesk for a search in drive C. After deleting every single autodesk file and folder, restarted the computer and reinstalled Civil 3D. It went smoothly, also with the activation process. I finished my installations today without problems and I think I figured out what might have caused this problem, for me at least. After I had every thing installed prior to the licence crash, I remembered to change the computer's name from some strange row of letters to something more meaningful to me. I think that was the trigger for my licence crash.

Nevertheless, thank you for your reply. One must remember that a "clean install" implies a complete wipe out of all autodesk's files and folders, even after de uninstall process is completed.

Hello @Anonymous,

Just to follow up on this thread post. When you receive the "The License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed" this error can be resolved with one of the 3 solutions below:

  1. Reset 2017 & Newer Autodesk Products
  2. Hard Reset of 2017 & Newer products
  3. The last resort is a Clean Uninstall of the product use MSfixitTool to complete it.

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy

Deleting these files and folders does not work. The similar issue that I am having is not resolved.

Me too: I deleted the files as suggested here and in many others websites (also in the Autodesk's FAQ) but my AutoCAD 2018 for students doesn't work yet. Always "License manager is not functioning or is improperly installed".

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

Some users have had success in performing a clean uninstall of 2018 per these instructions.  Just make sure to adjust settings if you have other Autodesk products already installed/working on your machine.

Next, download and install per:

1.  Clean out your personal temp (%temp%) folder.  Make sure you have full admin rights, set Windows UAC to never notify and if possible disable your Anti-Virus/Malware scanning utilities. Also the download should occur over a hard wired connection to the Internet and not over WIFI.

2. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.

3. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. This means save each part to your hard drive.  Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
4. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
5. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
6. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
7. Follow the installation steps for your product.  At this point you could cancel the installation or create a deployment.

Also update the license manager service too: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Product-crash-when-communicating-with-Licensing-Server-Hotfix.html#mtc-english?leadid=2138724&mktvar002=Subs_PROD_Design_COLLECTION_4hsm-nastran_ECC_USENGLISH.Email

I feel that it’s important to share the repercussions from using the wrong email/username for my license.  This could possibly help others, because Autodesk chat could not figure out how to help me.

I  spent a couple hours chatting online with Autodesk.  I had to convince them to move my license to the correct account so that I wouldn’t lose my info and so I continue to receive emails.  They did move it, but they did not correct the email/username.  I can’t make this change myself.

Once I loaded the software, it would not recognize my license.  Autodesk couldn’t figure out why, even after I told them it has something to do with the wrong email/username on my license.

I spent 4 hours troubleshooting this myself.  Loading and unloading.  Scouring through my account.  I finally figured out that they had the wrong email/username for my Software Coordinator and had given it all of the permissions.  Once I checked off those permissions and checked them on for my Contract Manager, which has the correct email/username, I was able to open the software.

I think this demonstrates two things.  Attention to details is important, particularly for something so simple that has such significance.  Implementing a protocol to triple check the email/username is highly recommended.  Also, Autodesk chat is not thorough.  For example, at the end of our chat they offered to have IT email me but then they forgot.  This tells me that the chat person doesn’t have technical expertise or follow through.

My vendor has since been able to fix the email/username for my Software Coordinator.  They knew it was wrong but didn't realize its significance.

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

First the ADUT folder is located under a folder structure that is hidden by default..  Assuming you knew that..

Secondly the ADUT folder may not be there if the license was never fully activated which in your case it may not be.  If its not there don't worry about it.
