I installed Maya 2017 and had some issues. I noticed after the 2017 installation 2016 Ex 2 would not work it had to be repaired.
So Maya 2016 Ex 2 and 2016 are now working however I cannot get Mental Ray to load in the Plug in Manager. It's installed for 2016 and 2016 ex2. I've tried repairing and re-installing, refreshing the Plug In Manager etc but am not getting anywhere.
The reason I mentioned the Maya 2017 installation is because Mental Ray was working normally in 2016 and 2016 Ex2 before this with no issues. I know that 2017 has different arrangements for Mental Ray etc so am wondering if it's something this installation has triggered? I am using the educational versions of Maya. Hope someone can help? Many thanks in advance.

I would suggest posting >>here<< for a better response as the software was installed. It seems the 2017 installation overwritten the mental ray files for 2016, so you can try uninstalling 2017 then run a repair on 2016. If it works after the repair, try reinstalling 2017.

Hello @Anonymous,
Welcome back!
Autodesk no longer includes licenses for NVIDIA’s mental ray with Maya, instead, customers will be able to use Arnold as the default out-of-the-box renderer for foreground processing. Customers who need to scale their rendering will be able to choose the renderer that best supports their needs, whether it is mental-ray, Arnold V-Ray, Renderman, Octane, Redshift or another third party renderer.

Hi just thought I would let you know unfortunately it didn't work, so I've done as you suggested and posted in the Maya forum. I've put a link here to my other post in case anyone else gets this problem. Thanks

Hi @natasha.l
Many thanks for your reply.
The problem I think is the installation of 2017 has overwritten something in the Mental Ray 2016 versions. I already have Mental Ray downloaded and installed for Maya 2016 and 2016 Ex 2 since last year. Mental Ray was working fine in 2016 until I installed 2017 yesterday. The problem is Mental Ray will now not load in 2016 and 2016 Ex 2.
I realised you have to purchase the Mental Ray licence for 2017 I basically just wanted to have a look at 2017 new features etc. I have now uninstalled and Maya 2017 (as Darin suggested), and also repaired the Mental Ray files, but it still won't load. I would be very grateful if have any ideas on what I else I can do to get Mental Ray to load in 2016 again?
Many Thanks

Hi @natasha.l
Many thanks for your replies, I realised I hadn't tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling Mental Ray again after I'd uninstalled Maya 2017, I'd only been repairing Mental Ray instead. So doing this has solved the problem I now have Mental Ray working normally again. @Darin.Green your solution did work in the end after uninstalling Mental Ray and 2017, so thanks again for that. However I haven't tried installing 2017 again yet, but will give it a go again soon, as am guessing I'll have to do the uninstalling process again!
