After Installing Maya 2017 - Mental Ray in Maya 2016 and 2016 Ex2 will not load

I installed Maya 2017 and had some issues. I noticed after the 2017 installation 2016 Ex 2 would not work it had to be repaired.

So Maya 2016 Ex 2 and 2016 are now working however I cannot get Mental Ray to load in the Plug in Manager. It's installed for 2016 and 2016 ex2. I've tried repairing and re-installing, refreshing the Plug In Manager etc but am not getting anywhere. I have also uninstalled 2017 searched and deleted any files to do with it. I then repaired Mental Ray and also tried starting both 2016 and 2016 Ex2 by renaming the maya folder in documents, to see if that made any difference, but it doesn't.

The reason I mentioned the Maya 2017 installation is because Mental Ray was working normally in 2016 and 2016 Ex2 before this with no issues. I know that 2017 has different arrangements for Mental Ray etc so am wondering if it's something this installation has triggered/overwritten?

I am using the educational versions of Maya. Windows 8 PC.  Hope someone can help? As it's driving me mad, many thanks in advance.

I realised I hadn't tried uninstalling and reinstalling Mental Ray after uninstalling Maya 2017. But completely uninstalling and reinstalling it afterwards worked, I had only repaired it after uninstalling 2017 and this did not work. I just thought I would write this in case anyone else has this problem.

Hi

Glad you got it working.

Please mark every answer that solves your problem as solution (also if it's your own post), so others interested in this thread will get a better overview.

@mspeer

Thanks for that, yes I will do that, I've not really posted much in forums before. But I do find them very useful for solutions to problems!
