Error 1714

Hey,

I've had Sketchbook installed for a little while now, but when going to update, it does not allow it. It come up with Error 1714, I believe. It says it cannot find the older version to rewrite. I tried to uninstall the entire program and reinstall, with no luck. Any help would be great.

Hello @Anonymous

Can you please state which program/application version is it not able to locate and rewrite/remove? One of the reasons to cause this might be an earlier unlicensed/hacked copy of a prerequisite application/software or the application you are trying to install now (Sketchbook)

You can try  follow the steps below to resolve this issue.

  1. Remove any traces of the failed installation by uninstalling (add/remove programs) from Control Panel
  2. Run Microsoft Fix it utility to repair corrupted registry keys that prevents programs from being completely uninstalled or blocking new installations and updates.
  3. Run Disk Cleanup to clear out your temp files and installation files
  4. Reboot your computer
  5. Disable any antivirus and firewalls
  6. Ensure you have admin access
  7. Run the installation again

If the above is helpful and it resolves the installation issue, please mark this reply Accept as Solution

I was actually able to fix it and reinstall with the newest version. I had to install Microsoft Fix It, which forced a complete uninstall of any traces of the program, which the usual Program uninstall through windows did not do. Then when I re-installed, I had no issues.
