Cannot launch Maya 2017, only splash screen appears then dissapears

I think I have tried everything after searching through all of the forums.

I have downloaded an educational stand-alone license of maya 2017.

When clicking on the desktop shortcut the only thing that happens is the splash screen appears briefly and then it dissapears, then Maya does not launch.

No error messages.

I keep receiving e-mails saying 'Thank you for registering' and am given an activation code but I never get to that screen to input the code into it?

Is anyone else having a similar problem.

I have tried a "clean uninstall/reinstall of Maya" and tried uninstalling and downloading again, but nothing works.

Thanks if you can help!

Hi @steven.atkin and welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear you're having this issue!

To start, what are your pc specs?

Steps to find your pc specs can be found here!

Also, what GPU are you using and are the drivers up to date?

Steps to update your drivers can be found here!

Finally, you may want to check your anti-virus/firewall to make sure its not blocking anything Maya or Autodesk related.

Steps to check for that can be found here!

Please let me know if anything changes!

Hi Sean,

PC specs are as follows:

Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10 GHz

Installed Memory - 8.00 GB

System type - 64 bit

GPU - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960

I have checked anti virus and firewall but the same problem still exists.

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm ok. Your GPU isn't on our certified hardware list so if the drivers aren't up to date you'll want to make sure they are. It looks like version 391.35 just came out two days ago so i'd recommend checking to see if you are on that version which can be found here!

If they are up to date, you may want to uninstall them and roll back to a previous driver version. You can find a list of Nvidias drivers here.

Let me know how that goes for you!

Hi Sean,

Many thanks for all the help.

I could not get the new drivers to work as they came up as not compatible?

Hi @Anonymous

Are you on Windows 10? Cause that's the OS version those drivers are compatible with.

If you are on Windows 7/8 then its possible that new driver isn't compatible with your OS.

Hi @Anonymous

Ah ok!

This version should work with Windows 7.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Sean,

The version you provided works with Windows 7 , thank you very much.

I still cannot get Maya to get past the splash screen though? Unsure what to do next?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled quite a few times and deleted all Autodesk software too.

Thank you for all your efforts though!

Regards

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm ok.

It's possible that Maya may be getting blocked by your firewall/anti-virus so can you make sure its allowed by both of them?

Steps on how to do so can be found here!

Let me know how that goes!

Hi Sean,

I have deleted my anti virus software and turned off my firewall but Maya still cannot get past the splash screen?

I tried running it in 'Program Compatibilty' but still only the splash screen appears and then is gone.

Hi @Anonymous

Hmm this is tough.

I've got a handful of other steps we can try.

First off you may want to try deleting your settings/preferences just to make sure they aren't causing any issues.

Then you can try running in batch mode

To do this open your Command Prompt and type mayabatch -prompt and then screenshot that window or paste code here.

Finally, you can go to your Documents->Maya->Maya 2018 and open your Maya.env file and paste these lines in there:

MAYA_DEBUG_ENABLE_CRASH_REPORTING=1

and

MAYA_DISABLE_CIP=1

Please let me know if this solves your issue or please post the logs from the above prompts so we can try and figure out what error is causing this!

Hi @Anonymous

The files in your Maya.env file look fine.

As for the command prompt, you need to have a space between them but I just tried mayabatch like you did and it worked fine so its unusual that the command prompt isn't recognizin it.

That said, please try a space between them and see if it runs then.

So "maya batch" and "maya batch -prompt"

Please let me know how this goes for you!

Hi Sean,

Thanks again for the advice.

The cmd prompt still does not seem to work?

Hi @Anonymous

Ah wow that's definitely unusual.

That shows that Windows isn't recognizing the Maya command or exe file basically so it won't run at all.

This means it's possible this may be an issue with your machine/hardware itself.

I'm also going to add one of our Installation and Licensing members @natasha.l to this thread and move this thread over to that board so they can offer their input as well!

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Installation & Licensing forum. Sorry for the frustration I understand you are trying to activate your student license. Please run through the steps one at a time to test the outcome:

  1. Reboot the computer making sure you are signed  out of all Autodesk products
  2. Log in as >Administrator with full control permissions <
  3. >Temporarily disable security settings< like Antivirus, Firewall & >UAC< on your Windows operating system
  4. Try to use the activation steps outlined here, >Steps for Setting-Up Student Software<.
  5. If following those steps still doesn't help try to >change or reset licensing on your Autodesk 2017 and 2018 software<.

After you try the above steps please answer these questions:

  1. Were you able to activate/get past the splash screen?
  2. On the "Let's Get Started" splash screen did you select "Enter Serial Number"?

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Natasha,

Many thanks for providing the information.

I selected the 'Browser Download' option when downloading software.

This time when launching the software I was able to get to the 'Let's get started ' screen and I entered a serial number.

I then received an e-mail saying thank you for registering.

I clicked launch in the 'Autodesk Desktop App', the splash screen appeared and then dissapeared again.

I tried deleting the LGS.data, ADUT and adskflex files and folders but could not get back to repeating of the activation process.

regards
