Multiple Data Source connections for Features

Multiple Data Source connections for Features

It might be very handy to be able to combine Multiple (File and Database) Dynamic Data Source connections to one Feature object to combine object properties. Sort of like the Navisworks and Map 3D Database connections to link data together using a special key value.

John, can you explain the benefits of having this capability - the "why"?  Examples would be helpful.

Hi Eric,

  • think about Systems Engineering and how easy it would be to connect any SBS or WBS to InfraWorks objects using a pairing key value
  • another benefit would be to really quickly add extra city/municipality stored database properties (open data) to Model Builder generated OSM features making the model much more intelligent and locally usable. Examples might be actual roofheights, property values or family sizes.

Generally speaking, the InfraWorks models could be easily updated with more data-rich information (think also Internet-of-things big data) when more datasources can be connected/introduced into features. Also simulations might benefit greatly and run from the added information. This could also potentially open the way for 4D and even 5D simulations right in InfraWorks.

@Eric_Chappell I may agree with John, we have been discussing about WBS and 4D/5D also in the forum! I totally support this idea. It could be great for presentation and construction simulation, with time and budget.

It is also difficult to relate it directly with Navisworks, and being able to add properties will be great. Just think about Revit

This is a great idea, however we're not considering it's implementation at this time. We'll keep it on the list for future consideration.
