Buildings from Point Clouds

Buildings from Point Clouds

I'd like to import a point cloud of a building, and have Infraworks convert it to an 'Infraworks building'.

The finished building should be a decent representation of the building, including geometry, colors and materials.

This would allow us to: share our Infraworks models with stakeholders without the need to include point clouds in the model, would make the models look nicer / more consistent for presentation purposes, cut down on the size of the model, and allow the full model to be reviewed in a browser. Not to mention the time savings.

Maybe this would be better as a feature in Recap.

I 110% agree. New to point clouds and processing here....but if the software is "smart" enough to remove buildings from a point cloud to create a clean terrain model, than I imagine it shouldn't be too much more of a leap to create buildings from those filtered points.

In current process, "Buildings" are considered as vertical feature (or point feature) and hence they are part of "Point Cloud Modeling" feature. This will iterate user through the features that it considered as "vertical features" and let user place any representation. This might help you for now while we see the way to automate the buildings, in specific. If you interested, we can catch up offline to go over the workflow and potential ways to optimize it.
