Using tooltips/html to display PDF documents within Infraworks

Hello,

I would like to be able to preview PDFs in Infraworks via the tooltip using a html iframe. I have included the html I am using for the tooltip below. The code works fine in Google Chrome but in Infraworks only the link works, the PDF preview window appears to be blank (see snapshot).

Any idea why this is happening? Does this have to do with Infraworks using an older html reader?

I am using Infraworks 19.2.17.0.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Anonymous ,

please take a look at the InfraWorks help page InfraWorks Help: About Creating Links, Tooltips, and Watermarks.

You will find:

Tooltips

Tooltips are labels that appear when you hover over or right-click a feature. Tooltips can contain generic text, images, links, and/or model property values.

I understand that it is not possible to open documents in the tooltip window, only links to documents are supported.

I will try to get a confirmation and come back soon...

Regards,

Karsten.

Works for me.

I used this, for example; <a href="file:///C:\Start.jpg">See Picture</a>

A picture pops up from a local file.

I have used this with csv's, xlsx files, etc.

Works for PDF files too.

Hi,

Yes got the link working but was hoping the preview of the document was also possible as it seems the case if I test the html code in a browser (google chrome). I guess I will just use the link in that case. It would be a great add-in for Infraworks to get the tooltip html functionality to load preview of files, essentially like an internet explorer.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I receive the information that it os not possible to open the PDF in the tooltip window out of the box. This might change in future.

In the meantime it might be possible to use PDF.js (https://mozilla.github.io/pdf.js/examples/), just an idea to test out - it is not tested yet.

Regards,

Karsten.
