pointcloud data to 2D or 3D objects

hello,

I am processing a pointcloud captured from a Faro scanner in Recap, then opening the recap file in autocad and manually sketching over the features to create 2D environments based on the pointcloud data. Is there a software that will translate pointcloud data into a 2D or 3D format automatically? I have read about Autodesk Infraworks potentially being able to do that, but I would need the files to be viewable in autocad.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

>> opening the recap file in autocad and manually sketching over the features

This can be done with AutoCAD as long as you need 2D sections from the pointcloud.

Here you find some information about pointcloud in AutoCAD >>>click<<<

If you need 3D objects like curb or linemarking converted to 3D objects (later in Civil 3D ==> Feature Lines) then yes, then Infraworks might be the product of choice.

Thanks for the info Alfred.

When I use the command PCEXTRACTSECTION I am shown a "section object not found" upon selecting my pointcloud. Any ideas why?

Thanks again.

Hi,

>> I am shown a "section object not found"

Did you first create a section object and then start the command?

Hello,

Whenever I delete a section and create a new one, it is not possible to extract section lines anymore.

It displays: "section object not found"

Any solutions?
