I can't say for sure, but perhaps your coordinate systems is experiencing a metric-imperial conversion issue. You can read this recent forum thread for help with troubleshooting coordinate systems http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-general-discussion/add-a-fbx-file-to-infraworks-corrdinate-....

Could you provide some more explanation of your process?

What is the existing ground surface file?

What type of file is the composite finished surface?

Does your model have a terrain layer?

Thanks!

If you can share the surface file, that would probably be the best so we can test it.

i noticed that when I turned my existing ground surface layer back on in the infraworks model both the existing and all of the proposed ground show up in the area that they over lap. So must be something to do with the layers in infraworks which I do not fully understand yet.

You ideally need the finished surface pasted into an egl in Civil before IMXing out as cut will never show up in IW as the highest surface is always visible.

Copy the EGL, use the design surface as a Hide Boundary and then paste in the design, then only load this surface from the IMX.

You could also try changing the display order of terrain surfaces in IW.
