non linear projects in Infraworks

I quite like the 3d orbit speed in infraworks so want to use it for visualization. I have an existing ground level dtm with an aerial image draped over which looks great. I have brought in earthworks platforms that have been designed in civil 3d but they take the aerial photo texture and so can't be seen easily.

is it even possible to do this - I have seen a Youtube video showing a dam in China that shows exactly the sort of thing I want to achieve but I have no idea how to do it - any clues gratefully received...:)

Tim

I'm determined to crack this one......

When exporting the 3D polyline surface boundaries using MAPEXPORT, do I need to change the Geometry to anything in particular?

On the Options tab of the MapExport dialog, be sure to select Treat closed polylines as polygons and when you configure the data source in InfraWorks, but sure to set Convert Closed Polylines to Polygons, on the Source tab.

Your image looks pretty good to me. What's missing?

Thanks - just about to try this at home; hoping my laptop won't explode running Infraworks...!!!!

There is a linear feature running up though the middle (a stone wall) and the hardstands can be made out in the background and foreground but they are draped with the EGL and so aren't easily visible unless viewed against a skyline

Making some progress - I can now see the hardstands and have given them a green theme but it is still possible to see the underlying aerial photo; should I give them a texture in Civil 3D before IMXing them out?

Cracked it...made a coverage theme and dragged and dropped to the model (thanks to Dana Probert for the pointer http://bimontherocks.typepad.com/my_weblog/2012/10/importing-parcels-with-black-outlines-in-autodesk...

There is a new feature in R2 that will allow you to do this with a coverage area.  Works pretty good.

so you don't need to do the SDF coverage method?

Not sure that that method would work for my particular project
