Model too big. How to purge it?

Hi,

I have a model that became too big for the group of students keep working. I wanted to divide the model in several groups, but to delete the unused objects.

I managed to duplicate and delete the unused objects (since each group was a different proposal). But the model is still to big. It only diminished from 3.54 Gb to 3.29 Gb. 

I deleted the objects from the Style Palette and  and the Imported Data Sources, and yet, the file continue with 3.29 Gb.

How do I purge the unused files? (the inital file had 128 Mb)

it is normal that a model grows in size over time. It is the way how the model data is handled in InfraWorks and GIT and SQLite database - nothing gets lost.
For example, if you have a large point cloud dataset in the model and you remove it from the data sources, it's still existing internally.

A model cleanup tool was implemented to remove such data from the database some versions ago:

It's currently the only way to clean the models and reduce file sizes.

I tried the Cleanup Model, but I don't have a Cloud Point import. I'm using the Model Generator. So it didn't have any effect.

The model growed bigger because the students imported a lot of objects (Sketchup and Revit), but when I delete these objects from the Data Source and from the Style Palette, the model don't get smaller.

Is there a way to diminished it?

Hi @rc_maccord

could you please double check the following:

• Are there any any large files put directly in the .files directory?  These could have been included in the git commit, which would cause the model to stay big
• How big are the directories under the "Resources" folder?  If it is mostly TerrainTextures, reducing the image resolution may help with model size

Hey Karsten,

Sorry for not answering before. I had a lot to do and few time. I managed to diminish the model size a little.

We found another solution to our problem, which was to separate the model into different files (one for each group).

The biggest problem was that the students were uploading tons of files, and if someone tried to sync to download the changes, the volume had already increased too much. When we separated then, each group stopped to interfere with each other.
