InfraWorks bridge and girder length issue

Hello everyone!

 

My name is Bogdan, I am a student in George Brown College doing a research project.

 

I am currently modeling a bridge, but I don't quite understand how InfraWorks measures the length of the bridge. For some reason when I click on the bridge it shows me the length between the back surface of the ballast wall on the one end and unknown point behind ballast wall on another end. Same goes for lengths of girders (see attached screenshots).

 

Another issue is that when I add equal skew to all piers and abutments, the length of the girders placed beside each other is different by couple an inch or so.

 

Does anyone have any idea why is it happening? I would be very thankful if somebody would help.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

The bridge length annotation is from back of ballast wall to back of ballast wall.  The girder length annotation is from the end of girder to the end of girder.  This is something we have been working on improving.  If there is a vertical curve along the bridge or slope along the length of the bridge it can throw off the annotations and make it look like they don't line up accurately with the object.  This is probably what is going with the girder length annotations and why they are slightly different.

 

Just as a test if you created a road that has a 0% slope along the length of the road and then place the bridge, do you still see issues with the annotations?  Or do they line up more accurately?

Hello Jim, 

 

sorry that the reply took so long.

 

I tried to create a test bridge without any slope, horizontal or vertical curves. The results are the same: lengths of girders are different, length of bridge is measured from the same point.

I exported modeled test bridge into 3D model, imported it into Civil 3D and measured the lengths of girders there - they are still different and it does not seem to be an issue with annotations in InfraWorks but with model itself

Could you attach some screen shots of the test bridge?  Preferably the entire bridge with annotations then some of the different girder length annotations.  I would like to see if I can reproduce the issue.  Thanks.
