Coverage area show triangles

Hi, I'm having trouble getting my coverage areas to display properly.

When I ad a style to the coverage areas, it displays triangles/shadows together
with the image/texture (see picture).
The coverage area is imported as an shp and the terrain is shaped with imx.
The area where i'm using the coverage is flat.

Thanks

Hm, it looks like the terrain is actually not flat in the image. I wonder what is happening to cause that. One easy way to test out if the terrain is truly flat would be to turn on Wireframes.

How did you end up with that narrow raised surface in your model? Did you do any sort of terrain shaping before sketching coverage areas? I am wondering if you need to do some further terrain simplification/grading adjustments before adding your coverage. You may have some luck using Land Areas & Grading instead of coverages.

Let me know what you find out!

Best,

Elliott

One other thought is that you can open up Application Options and A) Turn off shadows, and B) Increase Terrain Simplification (which reduces the # of terrain triangles).

Thanks,

Thanks for the fast reply.
The terrain seems to be flat when I look at it in wireframe aswell (see picture).
The terrain shape is a part of a train station and is supposed to be a bikepath, so there will be alot more elements than just this raise in the terrain.

I've tried to turn off the shadows and to increas the terrain simplification but nothing happens.

Any other suggestions? really needs this to work today:/

Btw, what does the Land Areas & Grading do, and where do I find it?

GFHA, you have some extra possibilities using Coverage Areas:

1. Your can shape your terrain directly using the SHP file you brought in as Coverage Area by using RMB (Right Mouse Button) on it and choose Shape Terrain. Then set the absolute terrain height at the blue up-arrow and watch the Coverage Area go up.

2. Secondly, you should use the Smooth Radius property on that Coverage Area to set the maximum distance of grading. There is a drawback on this, because you cannot set the absolute grading, only the grading distance.

Try this and let me know if this gives you better results?

Land Areas and Grading Behaviours are still a Preview technology but already powerfull in that you can use Styles to set the Grading and Grading Materials. You will find Land Areas just below Coverage Areas, when you first activate the Preview technology in the InfraWorks Home screen. In the Grading Style Palet you can set Fixed Width or Fixed Slope and choose Cut/Fill slopes and Materials accordingly. There is also a maximum Grading limit possible. My only wish for the Land Areas is the Shape Terrain option which is already present on Coverage Areas. I will add this to the IdeaStation.

Here you will find a video playlist about Land Areas and Grading behaviours.

That worked perfectly!
I just shaped the terrain with the coverage area and set the smooth radius to 0.5m.
Now it looks great, thank you:)

Nice answer, John. Sorry I didn't tell you about Shape Terrain command, I had assumed you had already performed a Shape Terrain procedure since you said your terrain was flat. Glad you've got it working.

Thanks,

Elliott
