Define New Coordinate System

Anonymous

Hi..

I have some issue relate to coordinate system

a. Can Infraworks define new coordinate system (like in map/civil 3d)? because we have own coordinate system as standard from goverment.

b. Is it possibe to get data from model builder using new coordinate system? it didn't work when we combine data from civil 3d using our local system coordinate. Infraworks can not detect that coordinate system. Is there any procedure to transform coordinate of infraworks model?

It's crusial for us to keep our current coordinate system as output on all of process of BIM because it standard of project.

Appresiate any help

Thanks

Hi Damayanti,

no there is no such functionality to create CS in AIW.

But Civil and AIW share the same CS library. So if you run the same major releases of both ( at least i think it is)  you should be able to create one in civil and use it in AIW, which can then be selected from the search field in the config dialog.

For the model builder i guess they are created in LL84 all teh time. But you can change the USC for this model in the model properties.

Hi Andreas,

I'm running the laterst version of both software (infraworks v 16.4.76.0 and civil 2016)

Actually in civil 3D we have our custom coordinate system and in already put in library, so we can use that system whenever we work. Any other way to put that new library in infraworks? that library we save in dwg format.

In infrawork detect database schema in schema template file (*.schema.json). Is any procedure to convert our library inti this template?

Thanks

I found out that cs library stored in .csd (corect me if I'm wrong). I seached on my system have some .csd file. is it possible to replace csd from civil 3d (that have custom cs) to .csd in Infrawork? or change path so infraworks can read csd from civil 3d?

Good day!

Civil 3D and Infraworks use collective CS folder. All CS, that you create and use in Civil  also available and in Infraworks

CS1.jpg

Choose your Category and you will see CS.

When create new model you  can set CS for display coordinates in the status bar (UCS) and set CS for database, i.e. for SQLite file your model. In details, see the pictures below:

CS.jpg

Themselves data sources, e.g. .sdf files this setting not affect. CS for them you set during creation.

Hi Prudnikov81..

I created model from model builder (so, default CS can't be change) but I have other data (survey and other gis data) that created in projected cs from civil.
Infraworks now can read the new CS from civil (the x and y position are match, but not the elevation).

But the issue we facing right now that those data have very different elevation value (around 90-100m). Our goal is to make infraworks file define the new cs not only x & y but also have the same level elevation. Because this new cs is government standard. And we would require model from infrawork to work in civil 3d applying new cs.

Is it possible to add some elevation automatically to all the surface in infrawork? Is it possible to define new datum of elevation in infraworks?

InfraWorks 360 takes also the z values into account, they should mach exactly. Do you know wether the z values of the Model Builder terrain are incorrect or the ones you import? If you "just" want to correct it and you know the exact value, you can correct that during import:

It is just wild guess work, may there be a factor the reason what could happen by an metric/inch mismatch?

I hope I have understood you correctly, I am not very good speaking on English.

You import the data by, for example, in UTM-37N CS. In the model - LL84. You can set the UTM-37N to your data on the tab - Geo Location

Then, when you Close&Refresh your data automatically convert in LL84.

If you need use .sql file of Infraworks model in Civil 3D, then when you connect to sql your coordinate convert also automatically.

@heiko.meyerdirks actually both elevation are correct but have different level of datum if I'm not wrong. Model builder take from elevation from MSL but my local coordinate system put some additional elevation because government don't want to detect any negative elevation for all area. Actually what I require put also additional elevation to terrain from model builder. Any advice?

@Anonymous yes. Correct it automatically convert to CS that used in model. But the issue is z value not correct but x&y position value are correct..

If I correctly understood you, then I would do so:

1. Open model in Civil 3D.

2. Rise up the exciting surface to the desired value.

3. Export editing surface to IMX.

4. Delete exciting surface from Infraworks model.

5. Import the surface from IMX.

I hope that correctly understand what you need))))

@Anonymous

Ok, I got your point.
I would try that. It should be working.

Thank you
