Chamfer 3D shape

Dear Community,

I come to you after having tried ALL milling strategy offered by Inventor HSM 2017.

Here is my issue:

I want to mill a simple contour. The contour of this number 3. see pic below, the contour is in blue:

Contour1.png

I want to mill this contour with a 90° chamfer tool and mill the inside of this contour as well. See pic below,

Contour2.png

For the moment all I get is the tip of the tool to follow the contour. This is not what I hoped for.

So, to explain a little bit further, I want the edge of the tool (red line)  to follow the contour. This would result of having the "3" number milled in 3D, with a V-shape cross section, following this 2D path.

(To refrase, I would like my tool to go up and down to match the width of the area to be milled. Hence, the depth of the milling would vary according to the width of the area to be milled.)

I have tried all milling strategy and they mostly return this error message:

Contour error message.png

exept for 2D contour strategy and Slot strategy. However, slot strategy do not produce a toolpath as it shows "None" in the browser tree.

So the solution I had in mind is to stay with this 2D contour strategy but fine tune some parameter that would allow the edge of the tool (in red) to follow the contour and not the tip of the tool to follow the contour.

I would really appreciate to receive guidance from anyone who might have come accross such issue,

Many thanks in advance,

Best Regards

Jules

Have you tried with the 2D Engrave operation?
The Engrave strategy machines along contours with V-shaped chamfered walls.

Ivan.stanojevic, thanks for your quick reply,

Yes, this strategy returns the error message displayed in the thread description.

Here is the parameter of my tool. Since it says the tool is not supported, maybe I am doing something wrong:

Any idea where the error message is coming from? Any workaround?

It does not support a countersink. You can create a chamfer mill or even a spot drill with the same characteristics that will give you the correct toolpath.

Here is what I get with this chamfer tool: there is not toolpath generated.

Note that I have tried also with the spot drill end that you suggested. Didn't work neither.

Compatibility issues...could you save it with HSM 2017 version? or any older version that I could read with Inventor HSM 2017?

And just to make sure, that is what I want to get at:

Sorry, I do not have Inventor 2017 anymore.
Maybe this solution works only in HSM2018.
