Help! I cannot get the post processor to work no matter what I put in the Fusion 360 post processor fields. What am I doing wrong?

Frustrated to say the least.

Hi Mark,

Sorry you have to hold my hand through all this, but I do appreciate your help. I'm getting it slow but sure. Regarding this suggestion:

I'd move\delete the post you've edit from the generic folder or you'll have problems after the next update. Can you upload the post so we can try and fix it for you.

To delete the post that I altered, I opened the post folder and deleted the tormach mach 3 file, afterwhich using the haas generic post I was able to produce a g-code file. I'm not sure if I deleted it in the right place. I will attach a screenshot of where I did this and you can direct me. I saved the post processor that you attached on my desktop. Not sure how to replace the one I altered.

Under preferences, if I add an external editor, that just puts the posted code into a file where I can open the g-code file and review it; correct? I'm sure a few more post are going to follow to sort this out.

Thanks Mark

If you look at the bottom of post #20 in this thread I've attached a copy of the original tormach.cps post, copy it into the folder you have in this image. That should get you back to a good install.

No, the editor is just what Fusion will start so you can view the code when you post.

For the location the g code is saved to, on the post dialog click the button at the end of the Output Folder input and select a folder to save to. Each post will remember the Output folder you've set.

Edit I use Mach3 and save directly to a USB drive.

Hi Mark,

I did all that and selected the post and once again the user defined property field was blank. I opened the post editor and this error appeared.

Is there a particular format for the output folder? The output folder I created is under documents, where I created a new folder and named it "Fusion 360 Posts". Will that work?

Press the "Setup" button and select "Use Personal Posts" to use the posts that are in your \AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Fusion 360 CAM\Posts\  folder:

Otherwise it's still using the old one that has problems.

It looks like the tormach.cps is corrupt some how, can you download it again to another folder and try viewing it with notepad. I just downloaded the one from post #20 in this thread and it worked fine for me so I don't know why you're having problems.

One thing to try, download the tormach post to Documents then on the post dialog click the icon to search for the Configuration Folder and set it to Documents. When you've done that select the tormach post and see if it works from there.

Mark,

I think you solved my problem. I copied the post link you sent me to my documents as you suggested, and pasted it in the Fusion post folder, after which I saved and closed fusion and re-opened the program and I believe that did the trick. I will create geometry in a new window and run a facing and pocket tool path and see if I can post a file. I'll let you know if I'm successful in generating a g-code file.

To everyone who helped me solve this problem I sincerely thank you. You have all been patient and most gracious in answering my questions. I have come a long way since I opened my first cad program 5 years ago, but I can see I still have much to learn. I have to tell you I learned a lot from you folks in the last couple of days, as tedious as it has been for you to answer all my questions.

Sincerely,

Tom

Hi David,
It has been quite awhile since I had a problem with the post processing portion of Fusion 360. After opening Fusion click on the preferences tab on the dropdown list under you name. Once preferences opens click on cam under the general tab on the left of the screen and once that window opens look at what is in the “external editor” field. If there is anything there delete it, as I believe it should be blank. go back and try and post a code. I hope this helps. If it doesn’t take a screen shot and send it to support as they are fantastic at helping to solve problems.
