Dynamic Tool Axis Control

Dynamic Tool Axis Control

I would like to control the tool axis of my operation by dynamically modifying the WCS. Very similar to what is shown in the Autodesk PowerMill software demonstration.

I notice that this was requested in December of 2014. Has there been any response/interest for this?

I think you need to provide more about what your expectations are here, because some of this is supported already.

Thanks Scott,

I'm a long time NX/Unigraphics user and short time HSM user. There may very well be a work around that I am not aware of and pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated.

My expectation is that I can display a UCS/WCS and highlight the "drag handle" between any 2 of the 3 coordinate axes and rotate about the perpendicular axis by a set degree or by dragging to some, convenient, degree to set my tool axis. This will allow me to use the shortest tool/holder combination possible when machining a deep pocket.

Current functionality is that I have to use existing part features, ie. edges, surface, hole axis, etc. to set my tool axis. If one of these is not convenient I have to construct new reference geometry, ie. lines or planes. This becomes cumbersome.

Thank you for your interest.

That's what I thought you were really asking for. That's not possible yet and is definitely needed.

Good, this is a much simpler ask then I thought it might be.

Effectively, you want an angle override to the current WCS (and tool orientation) Gizmo.

Keep the votes coming on this one - I will keep an eye on it.

Cheers,

Al
