Frequently loosing connection to the model data.

I am struggling with losing connection to model data frequently.
E.g. drilling process suddenly does not recognize the hole any more. Have to restart SWX and then it works for once or twice.

Already valid it was but no data in the operation.

Issue_02_01.JPG

The log messages says:

Warning: Selected surface not in job model selection!
Warning: No holes available for drilling.

Issue_02_02.JPG

There are and have been and will be holes!

Here's what I've tried:
- Clean install of WIN10, Solidworks and HSMWorks a few times.
- new graphics card and a lot of drivers
- AV off and on
- Deletion of %tmp%
- more Ram, less Ram
- and more

I think now it's your turn to fix your software, right?

Do you have any idea on what actions lead to this result? After it's happened, it's hard to guess as to what may be going on. Are you able to regenerate these operations?

Hi Jeff,

i did a movie and attached the modell files.

I can reproduce it on two computers, one HP Z320 with Nvidia and one Fujutsu Celsius W420 with AMD W6400.

It has to do with copy/duplicate and exchaning the tool before open the operation.

regards

Hello Autodesk people
It's not like anyone has successfully found a weird way to crash HSMWorks.

We often duplicate and copy operations and then replace the tool, as seen in the clip above.
After that, we often have problems like program crashes or unrecognized model data.
I suspect there is a program bug here that has multiple effects, and ask you to investigate and fix this bug to hopefully achieve better system stability under different circumstances.

I apologize. We are off for a few days with the Thanksgiving holiday. I'll get back to this, but it may take a few days.

It's hard to follow exactly what you're doing in the video in German. It looks like it's just a few steps. Can you just list those here? I see that you did a duplicate, then did you copy the tool from a different operation onto the duplicated operation? Then...?

Thanks,

  Jeff

Jobname is 2AG

Drag and drop the tool of the "2D-Kontur25 (12)" operation onto the "2D Adaptive1" operation.

Right-click on the "2D Adaptive1" operation and select Edit (Job). SWX crashes immediately.

Thank you for the steps. I also see the crash here, but so far only when using the drag & drop method to set the tool on the operation. If I select the same tool using the tool select button, then it does not happen.

I don't know why this is having this issue. The underlying problem is that there's an error when we try to re-gather the connected edges around the face. I'll try to talk to some others here to see if anyone can think of why this might happen, and what to do about it.

Sorry I don't have a better answer.

A question: Are you seeing this problem only in this particular model? Or have you seen it with others?

I can not say exactly. I have had many system crashes in the last few months or years with assemblies like the one I just provided you. Often I had to delete and recreate operations to continue working at all.

Bought new Nvidia graphics card, installed Autodesk® HSMWorks™ 2023.2.1. The crash of my TEST.ZIP is still there.

Response from Autodesk support including dealer support nada.

I wish Autodesk would treat me as their customers a little more respectfully and at least give an honest answer.

For example: Your problem is too minor, so you have to live with it.
Or: we can't find the problem, sorry!

I would rather accept that than not get an answer at all.

Hi Michael -

As I told you, we don't know what the problem is. We are still trying to figure it out.

Hello Autodesk Team

I quote your Release Notes of Build 18.0.0.44173 / 12 April 2023

FEEDBACK
We encourage you to provide your feedback to us and help make HSMWorks even better. If you encounter issues not covered in this document, please report them to Autodesk through your reseller, on the CAM discussion forum, or to the HSMWorks team using 'Send Feedback' on the 'Help' menu.
The Autodesk CAM Team

That sounds encouraging, but I have often experienced not getting a good answer or solution.

Nevertheless, I hereby try once again to contribute to troubleshooting.

I have noticed that transparent solids within the assembly unpredictably lead to a wrong selection and then to the problems described before in this thread.

Even when the solid is set to transparents and hidden, there are issues with unpredictably incorrect selection.

Even when the transparent solid is not selected as stock it effects the selection.

Hi Michael -

I can't tell whether the problem you're referencing is the same as the original one, or something different. Can you help clarify? What are the steps to reproduce what you're seeing? You indicate that this is "unpredictable" -- does that mean that it happens only sometimes?

Is there a different -- preferably simple -- model that you see this happening with that you could share?

Thanks,

  Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I often work with stock from a solid, as the picture above shows, and then switch the stock solid to transparent.

SWX allows you to select the enveloped solid via the transparent solid. So far so good.

I have had the most problems in this situation and with virtually every job after hous and sometimes after minutes.

Recently I have worked many days without transparent solids and everything worked fine and stable.

I will try to create a simple example and if possible a reproducible procedure to the issue.

Regards

Michael

Hi Jeff,

I had constant crashes again when editing an operation in a previously error free model.

I deleted all files in C:\Users\cadmin\AppData\Local\Temp\HSMWorks\intermediate and the problems are gone now.

Regards
