Knots in 3D wood texture

I've pretty much lost a day playing with the 3D wood textures in 360. I love the control I can get over the wood colour, colour and size of the grain etc. However, there's one thing missing - knots. I've been able to recreate the Japanese Cedar and the stains I use for most of my projects perfectly, apart from the real one is full of knots, and I haven't found a way to get knots on the 3D wood textures. Is there any way to do this?

Edit: apologies, i had not read your question thoroughly. you've asked for 3D materials and my reply only works for the standard appearances. I don't think you can add a knot to 3D materials as they are procedural-generated in contrast to the standard appearances which are based on images.

Note that you can create your own materials/appearances using the Material Browser, this will help you with replacing the existing material images with images that you find more realistic. (workspace Design> Modify > Material Browser > Tab Appearance) Click on a material for the your base settings, slect Add to Favorites.

In the Favorites group you can now copy this material and give it a new name. (E.g. Japanese Cedar)
Select the line/the material again and click on the pencil icon on the right of the material. You can now edit the appearance of this material and replace the used images. Click on the name of the source image and select a different picture. You can use your own photographs or download textures online (a great source is textures.com).

I see - well at least now I know it's impossible, I can stop looking for it!

I haven't had much success using my own textures, yet... I'm finding it hard to adjust brightness etc and to match the awesomeness of the 3D textures.

I'll keep going at it though!
