Can I group components to move as a rigid group in an Animation storyboard?

I have a model comprised of four major assemblies, which in turn are comprised of a number of subassemblies, some of which are comprised of linked components, others were designed in place.

In the Animation workspace, I wanted to create a Manual Explode comprised of the major assemblies (first).

Then, subsequent storyboards exploding the assemblies and subassemblies, all to be used in the 2D drawings for parts identification.

If I select multiple components that comprise one major assembly and create a manual explode, the components do not remain in their Rigid Group (I understand joints do not translate into the Animation workspace).

Is this possible? I haven't been able to find a Forum post or YouTube video describing anyone else doing it.....?

Screencast shows the model and the animation I'm attempting to create.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Hi,

A rigid group is a kind of joint. It will not operate in Animation.

The best way to select groups of parts to move as one in animation is to use the model browser nodes for selection.

And sorry, but no screencast link found in your post.

Does this help at all?

I keep getting an error "invalid HTML was found in the message body" and I can't attach the screencast for some reason

In the video below, it shows how exactly to embed HTML into a forum post.

Thanks John I didn't think to try adding a link. I've found the screencast in my account and dumped the embed code in another message below. Maybe that will work....

Seems convoluted to have to insert the HTML embed code when there is an option to select a screencast right below the text entry box (which is where I was running into the problem). Noob issues......

Thanks Phil, now I know an alternate method to adding the screencast.

Looks like we're cross posting in real time. Glad you watched the video. I never use the screencast tool, the embed code method is reliable enough for me.
