Break link breaks my model

When I import a model it becomes a component.  Then I want to break the link so I can tweak it.

But the component gets changed in weird way.

Please see video - I dont understand why I cannot break the link on this imported component without it breaking the model.

The issues it shows are not a problem in the original model, I assume, since I get what I see.

Hi @simon.dyer,

Thank you for posting in the forum! Could you try opening the original file of the inserted file and perform "Compute All" under the Modify menu to see if that causes any error?

Also, could you share a public link to the design with me? I'd like to take a closer look at it.

Here is the file (current version so be quick)
https://a360.co/2NZX5FB

I tried compute all in original file as requested - it shows one warning which is 'using cached geometry' which I consider  minor.

This is what I get when I manually move (drag) the components in your file. Slightly confusing.

Hi @simon.dyer,

Thank you for sharing the file with me! I was able to reproduce the issue and I think this is a bug. I apologize for the inconvenience. I have escalated this issue to the development team for further investigation. (the ticket ID is FUS-41810)

As a workaround, could you try the steps below to see if that helps?

  1. Export the file as STEP
  2. Upload the STEP to your project
  3. Insert it and break link

Or

  1. Delete the design history by switching to Direct Modeling mode
  2. Select "Save as" command in the File menu
  3. Insert the saved design into another design  and break link

Hopefully that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

@masa.minohara

Many thanks - I tried your workaround, second option and it worked.  Now I can continue my work 🙂

Is anyone from autedesk willing to explain why this is happening? Over 2 years later and there's a 50% chance for me to get this happen to me, which is causing me a lot of pain and unnecessary work as I copy and paste a lot of components to later tweak them slighly for renders

I have another example of this bug. FUS-41810? I'm curious about the urgency of the bug ticket.
