Surface Modeling | Patch Command Not Working in Certain Situations

I've run into the same issue every time I use  surface modeling in fusion 360 where it doesn't view a 3D sketch as a complete surface and I therefore cant use the patch command. I have attached photos of the most basic issue I have with it. It wont let me patch the surface even though all points or coincident unless I draw a simple 2D line to connect the triangle.

The Surface Patch tool is a 2D command so it will not generate the 3D patch as you can see.  You will have to use a surface loft on conical surface extrude and trim it.

Here is an example of a conical surface section like I think you want.  It was done with a surface loft.

The patch command definitely works with 3d sketches. Not sure what I'm doing wrong in the other situation.

I apologize, it does work but it is not a very good patch.  I prefer the loft surface.

You can improve it with an added rail.

Most of the webinars on surface modeling include 3D sketches being patched like this.

I think I've figured out a way to get the desired effect with the patch command. Thanks for your quick replies and alternatives.
