You will need to clarify what you are trying to Split and what with. Also are you talking about Split Body or Split Face. The area you show highlighted is not going to be capable of splitting anything.

I never used split face before so I was referring to split body along the profile hi-lighted in the photo. The tool shows it understands the split is extending over the plane of the body as shown. I don't know why this would not split as is is a plane where several splits should be made.
Still don't know why the split was not allowed but extruding the faces to a new body solved this issue but I would still like to know why the function did not work as this could be a problem in the future.
Ok, I made the Screencast a couple of minutes before I received your reply but it seems that my guess was correct. Fusion 360 has a very hard time using all of those faces to create the cutting plane even though it highlights the extended plane. Use the method outline in the video and it will work easily. Model is attached.

fusion is to complicate for the most simple things i run in to issues every time i want to do something same as now a simple split but no yet again a error
