Save As Mesh - behaviour changed

Hi all,

I'm running Fusion 2.0.20256 arm64

on macOS 14.4.1 (23E224) on Mac13,2

I was explaining to a colleague yesterday how it was so easy to send a design to Bambu Studio for printing.

My workflow was:

Right click on part > Save As Mesh > Ok

My last used setting of Preparation Type was remembered and the part would be loaded straight into Bambu Studio.

Typically... after my Fusion application updated yesterday the behaviour has changed so that now my last used Preparation Type is not remembered and default to Export each time.

Also following the update the part only loads into Bambu Studio if Bambu Studio is not already running. To load a part directly into Bambu Studio I have to first quit Bambu Studio. No good for multiple parts..

So now if I want to send multiple parts to Bambu Studio I have to export each part as a file and them load them into Bambu Studio manually.

Not the end of the world but it's certainly frustrating. I suspect that this new behaviour is not intended.

Just spotted this myself using Orcaslicer. As George says, this changed in the new version installed today.

I have no way of reproducing this, but I am going to tag @Phil.E

Thanks for reporting this. We are aware of the issue and are working on a fix that should go into the next available Fusion update. We did a lot of refactoring to the 3d print/save as mesh command and while there are a lot of improvements, this issue has sliped through unfortunately. @george.riggall you could work around the "save as mesh" issue by using the 3d print command in the Utilities Tab under Make -> 3d print. This is essentially the same command but it will remember your latest setting until we have a fix for "save as mesh" .

Thanks @lukas.fuhrmann for looking into this.

The workaround doesn't improve the second issue:

Also following the update the part only loads into Bambu Studio if Bambu Studio is not already running. To load a part directly into Bambu Studio I have to first quit Bambu Studio. No good for multiple parts..

So now if I want to send multiple parts to Bambu Studio I have to export each part as a file and them load them into Bambu Studio manually.

Thanks,

George

Yes, I am aware that the workaround will only help with the save as mesh issue, but not the issue around the parts not transferring if the slicer is already running. We will fix that as soon as we can.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

Lukas

Thanks for raising this issue @george.riggall and for looking into it @lukas.fuhrmann .  Thought I was going crazy for the past couple of projects, until I realised it was a software change.  My workflow linked to Ultimaker Cura and it was really easy to set up before.  Hoping that will be the same once resolved.  Looking forward to this being fixed as using this workflow is like second nature for me.

thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience. The latest Fusion update, that was rolled out last night contains the fix, so make sure to update and you should be able to send to your 3d print utilities again. Tipp for BambuSlicer. Under Settings you can activate a setting to "only open one instance of Bambu Slicer". If this is checked, your models will be added to the current build plate. If you uncheck it, then a new instance of the slicer is loaded and the part is added there.

The Save as Mesh > Print Utility does work agin. Thanks for fixing.

My preference for preparation type is not remembered though and still defaults to Export each time.

I confirm, the main problem is solved.
And I support — it would be nice if the last selected export type will be saved.

Yes, that would restore the behaviour as it was a couple of weeks ago. While iterating on a design, making tweaks to suit the slicer, it's quite irritating to have to go through the select-your-slicer-app process every time.

same problem here. every time I want to send it to the printer I have to change settings. It does not save my last used settings (like save mesh to bambu lab)

Any update on if the default to export is being worked on?

the default will be remembered again with the next Fusion update that goes out. Because of the other issue discussed in this thread, we currently don't have an ETA on when this will be rolled out.

It looks like this is fixed now in the latest update. My workflow is back to being super slick 😄

Thanks!

Latest update contains a ton of issues. Like if you try to export with custom parameters, the OK button is grayed it. It's randomly setting the refinement values to 0 for no reason.

Basically the moment you touch Custom export settings, it ruins any memory of previously held export settings. It used to not be like this just a few weeks ago.

Like seriously how is it this bad. You have to toggle it from low to high back and fourth for like 10 extra click steps just to get to back to normal export. And even then it doesn't remember the settings and sets it all to 0 again.

It was bad enough that my default camera controls were suddenly changed. Whoever pushed this update did not test it.
