Problems moving files

Anonymous
Not applicable

Having lots of trouble moving files from one project to another - If I accidentally save a new file in the wrong project it will not let me move it to the correct one. The data panel will not even let me move up to the root of tree - using the web interface I can navigate to where I want to move it to but when I click move it looks like it is doing something (it says something like moving file) but then the file is left where it was and not moved. I even tried using save as from the open model and that worked, but it did not work on the associated drawing. No error messages. Tried with Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft browser with the same results. Just tried it again and got a red bar at the top of the page that simply says cannot move selected file.

Normally this is only a problem if you have a distributed design, does the design have external designs linked\inserted? If there are linked designs all you can do is download the design from the online dashboard as an F3Z file then upload to a different project. You need to download the top assembly design then all linked designs will be downloaded in the F3Z.

This link might help.

Hello @Anonymous,

thanks for posting! As @HughesTooling suggested, this might be caused by the existing references in one of the design that you are trying to move (or an earlier version of this design). This behavior is described in the following article: Unable to move a file to a different project in Fusion 360.

The design would need to be moved together with all the files it is linked to. I will attach a short screencast in a moment to present how it can be done.

Please accept as solution if my post resolves your issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

This is still a problem. How? Copying files should NEVER require workarounds. MS-DOS had this sorted 30 years ago.

That worked for one of my pairs of files but not for the other. This is so frustrating.

I'm here to chime in the same - I set out to organize my projects, and now they're even worse off than before (because some files copied and some didn't).
