There is a disconnect when using pattern along path and having a non zero starting point. If an object is offset from the start of a path (start point) then spacing distance (spacing not extents) for a inline object (path direction, not inline path) does not reflect the assigned spacing. The math is all kinds of wrong.
only with an object with a path starting from the center point will path direction patterns with spacing assigned have proper spacing.
