Mac: Navigation is not working consistently anymore, Fusion unusable

Mac: open an existing design: two finger movement moves the body around, pinching zooms in/out as expected.

Then roll back history: two finger movement now zooms in/out. No way to move the body around anymore.

Fusion is unusable.

Another quite upsetting bug: put the Mac to sleep, after resume select is not working as before, becomes unusable

Very disappointed.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with Fusion and your mac.

I've never seen and cannot reproduce the problem you are describing with timeline. Can you possibly make a video using Autodesk Screencast to demonstrate it? The Screencast recorder will catch all the trackpad interactions and it should help show what the problem is.

Regarding what happens when you put the mac to sleep. I can't reproduce this either, although many people have reported it. In most cases customers report that minimizing/maximizing Fusion fixes it.

Both cases you describe involve trackpad losing "focus" on the Fusion application. When this happens, Fusion ceases to interpret trackpad input as "Fusion" input, and instead sees it as system input. In the case of sleeping the mac, when customers minimize/maximize Fusion it puts focus back on Fusion for the trackpad.

If you can help show how focus is lost, it will help us reproduce this and fix it.

Thanks,

The reason why I have not posted a screencast yet is the following
- I get to a situation where select doesn't work (not the button, it
is that moving around the mouse doesn't trigger object selection)
- I launch the screencast program, select works again
I did other tests
- launch Screencast, then exit screencast. Screencast won't run
anymore. If I click on its icon and double click or select "open",
nothing works
- however, when I get to a point with Fusion where select doesn't work
anymore, if I click on the Screencast program (that won't open), then
go back to Fusion, Select works again

I really hope you can find the root cause because this is VERY annoying
Thanks

I did some further tests and I've got a behavior that is 100% consistent
1) I get to a point where Select doesn't work anymore
2) I switch to any open program on my Mac, it is absolutely mandatory
not to press any keys
3) I switch back to Fusion, screen has the design but the browser and
the UI are not shown
4) I press a key, browser and UI appears, from that point Select works again
5) I switch to any open program and I DO press some keys to do
something on that program, switch back to Fusion Select does NOT work
6) if I redo from step 2), Select works again

I am also experiencing issues where two-finger swipe to move the object (actually view, I suspect) up and down. When I first launch the app it will work, but when going into a sketch it immediately stops and when I finish the sketch I no longer have the functionality.

just going to add that for me this isn't an "anymore" issue. I've been having this problem for the entire time I've been using Fusion and I have no clue how to fix it. It fixes itself randomly. It's usually caused by swiping between fullscreen applications, maybe while a tool is in use.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. I'm still stumped as to how to reproduce this. Many of us work mostly on Mac and mostly with trackpad. This is not happening to Fusion developers, or we'd know how to fix it by now.

My guess is that all of you are using Mac hotkeys that remove some "focus" from Fusion. Most of the recent reports talk about focus events and keeping or returning focus to Fusion (meaning Fusion will now start to receive and respond to trackpad or mouse events).

Do any of you use special Mac shortcuts/hotkeys to go in/out of Fusion when these things happen? Such as going to see a web page or other application by some means other than mouse/click traditional navigation.

@lfusina How do you "switch back to Fusion"?

@Anonymous  In your video, it looks like you can still orbit. Is Pan the only operation affected?

Yes, pan seems the only thing affected. And only in the vertical direction.

It seems to happen whenever I go into that particular sketch. If I go into a different sketch in my timeline it doesn't happen. (Of course, as soon as I typed that I tried it again and this time it didn't get affected. But the vertical pan within the sketch doesn't work now.)

I can't think of any hot keys I have turned on. To switch between apps I only use command-tab. I don't think I even left the focus of Fusion 360 in my video.  I don't have to leave Fusion/lose focus to reproduce the issue.

I am able to workaround this by clicking the "home" in the upper righthand corner. I can then go back to the front/back/side view and panning works.

I recently updated to Mojave if that matters.

Is there any debugging I can turn on to help capture what's going on?

I have the dock set to auto hide, I just move the cursor to the bottom
of the screen and select which program I want to switch to

@Anonymous

You may have a totally new bug. Can you share that file?

@lfusina

You might be experiencing a known bug.  When the problem happens, try this: move the mouse pointer over the timeline area icons. Does this help the problem?

yes it does. If it is a known bug, when do you expect to fix it? It's
quite annoying.

@lfusina This issue is not easy to fix or we would have fixed it long ago. You can almost guarantee that any long standing bug in Fusion does not have a path to fixing. It's not that we ignore these things, quite the opposite, we know a lot about this one. It's rather frustrating for us as engineers to be faced with a situation like this, your experience is very important to us.

There are a couple workarounds. One is don't hide the dock. Another is to make the dock larger so you can pick the Fusion icon "higher" on it to avoid the "bug zone". See image below.  See how the Fusion icon "bug zone" lines up with the timeline (arrow on the right)?

The last workaround is to find other methods to switch to Fusion, rather than clicking the dock icon.

Sorry for the trouble, please let me know what you find. I'm pushing newly for a fix to this issue, all hope is not lost!

Regards,

@Anonymous You have found an issue we know about and can't do much about.

Sketch 5 sits on a plane that is 3 degrees tilted compared to the world. The trackpad navigation does not work well in this situation and you are experiencing the result of this. The problem only happens when the screen view is pointed at an oblique plane like this sketch. It's fairly easy to get around it, which is what you'll have to do for now.

Workarounds:

  1. Use a mouse.
  2. Turn off "auto look at sketch", or alternately, just orbit a tiny amount.

Hi,

As of this week, with the latest update, this issue is fixed.

  1. If you haven't updated yet this week, shut down Fusion and restart it.
  2. Click the clock icon in the top bar to watch the update progress, click Restart when it finishes.

The current build number is found in the Help > About box. It is 2.0.8156.
