Inserted canvas image is skewed

but that post received no help. It also appears to be a dupe of a 2015 report (see the one comment)

When inserting this image  

 the image gets squished vertically and is no longer the proper aspect ratio

Edit: while the TEMPORARY solution is of course just taking a screenshot of the image and inserting that... I see no reason that Fusion shouldn't fix this issue..

The keyword you're looking for is 'calibrate canvas'

Do a search on 'how to calibrate canvas in fusion 360'

When I take picture like this I always include a printed mm reference (taped on the object) for reference.

but Calibrate Canvass does not fix, an incorrect Aspect Ratio.

Use the scaling factors in Edit Canvass, to repair it.  (Providing you know the correct sizes)

You can see I have a calibration square already in the image. But if the aspect ratio is off, any amount of calibration won’t solve the skew

Try inserting an image that is a screen capture of your file. There may be unusual compression in the original file that Fusion fails to interpret.

yeah, thanks.. that definitely works and is what I end up having to do. But I wanted to report this as a bug to be fixed

I too am having this issue.  It started sometime in the last 6 weeks.  After inserted several dozen images over the past 4 years, taking images form multiple sources, I can say this is definitely a new issue.  Inserting a screen shot works for me as well, but given that this is a workaround and the standard method is no longer working as advertised, it should be addressed.

Hi,

Inspired by an article in the German forum,
I noticed that after right-clicking > Edit and saving (without editing) the canvas in Fusion appears in the correct proportions.

@Phil.E  could this be a hint to the cause?

hey man i figured out a quick solution, for some reason fusion hates the apple deafult aspect ratio, so if you edit your photo on your phone and you crop it to 1/1 aspect ratio fusion will like it again,

Phones insert all kinds of metadata into photos for rotation, cropping, etc, instead of actually editing the pixels in the picture. Rotated pictures when uploading online is a common sign of this. Best thing to do is just open it in paint on your computer and save, it'll write the picture without metadata.

I think the point isn't that there is an easy workaround, the point is that every other image rendering software get's it right, but when loading into fusion, it's skewed.

Nice to see that almost exactly a year later this is still an issue, nice to see Autodesk really cracking down on these issues quickly.
I guess they were too busy adding the AI assistant no one asked for.
