HELP! *ONE* Design Has Vanished Without a Trace!

The facts:

  • Account type: personal.

  • Platform: Windows 11 Pro.

  • I've been working on a router lift design for the past few days.

  • I opened it as recently as this afternoon.

  • This evening it was gone from my projects list.

  • I restarted F360; no luck.

  • I looked in all project folders; no luck.

  • I looked in my autodesk account online; not there either.

  • I looked in my AppData folder in Windows; not there (but other designs were there).

  • I uninstalled and reinstalled Desktop Connector; didn't bring back my design.

  • Restarted the whole PC; no love.

  • Double-checked that I was logged in; I am (and other designs that should be there are there).

  • Checked for recoverable files; none - the option is greyed out.

  • Checked for updates to F360; no updates pending.

  • Logged out and logged in again; nothing.

  • Checked my Autodesk Drive; nothing (like, nothing at all - apparently I've never used it).

  • Fusion hasn't crashed on me since before I started the design.

  • I had inserted a few McMaster-Carr components.

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled F360 entirely; still my design does not appear.

I'm at my wit's end. It's like my PC is trying to gaslight me into believing that I never designed that router lift and I must have dreamed it. I don't know what else to try. It's as if someone at Autodesk plucked the file from my account, put it in a magician's box, said the magic word and made it and any reference to it disappear.

If anyone can offer a suggestion as what else I might do to find this wayward file, please let me know.

@dan62Q5E

1. Login to https://login.autodesk360.com/login
2. Go to the project
3. Do you see the design you are looking for in here?
4. If you do not see it in that project look at the "Trash" folder to see if it was deleted and available there by any chance.
4. If it is not there go into Fusion 360 and see at in the data panel if you are in the right hub where this was saved. Ypu may have multiple hubs and you may have switched to another hub?

Hi.
Thank you for your suggestions. I did try all of that last night (and again
just now, just in case). Sadly there is no sign of it.
I only have one account and there is no option to change hubs under my name
in F360. Also, other projects that should be and were in the same list are
all there; including the router table I've been designing in tandem with
the lift mechanism.
I appreciate the effort though, thank you. 🖖🏻

@dan62Q5E Just to confirm, it is not in the trash folder as well?

@dan62Q5E If you use the search to look for the design does it show anything?

I searched for *router* which returned two hits:

1. The router tabletop that is to go along with the lift.

2. A new file called Router Lift in the trash. I created that one last night t to see if F360 would complain about a duplicate file name. For the record, it did not complain and I deleted the empty design.

Well, I'm going to rebuild it from scratch because it looks like I'm not going to be able to get it back.

If anyone has any ideas about what might have happened, I'd still like to get to the bottom of this so that I can make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks!

@dan62Q5E Do you mind sending me an email to rajDOTkumarDOTilanchelianATautodeskDOTcom? I would like to connect with our backend team and see what could have happened to the data and see if there is any potential to get it back. I know we have tried all the different options and still don't see if but if you access it yesterday we may be able to see if there is something that could be done.

It would be easier to work on this on an email rather than in this forum thread.

Email has been sent as per Rajkumar's request but in case anyone else would like to chime in, here's where things are at now:

I actually found the lift design but I'm not really out of the woods yet. I found it INSIDE my table top design and I have no idea how I could have done that, why there were no traces of the original, separate design ANYWHERE and I am unable to "export" or "save as" to make it its own separate design again. When I try either of those options, Fusion crashes.

In my tabletop design, the lift mechanism has the same icon in the browser as the top-level component instead of just a box icon like all of the other components. I'm at a loss as to how that happened as all I ever do when I want to use a component from one design in another one is "Insert Derive". I wouldn't know how to wholesale add a complete design to another one even I wanted to.

@dan62Q5E Looks like you inserted the design and then broke link? The image does not show that it is still a derive. This still does not explain how the parent design got deleted.

Is it possible for you to invite my email ID into your project?

Ouch!  That would totally be F360 gaslighting you.

My problem is much simpler, I figure, because I'm just stepping into it.

I have an extruded rectangle, and I'm placing some bricks on it that I want to then extrude AFTER doing a rectangular pattern to make the brick wall.

I finish the sketch, Hit E...boom. it all goes away.  HOME doesn't bring it back either.

Clicking around on sketches and the body brings it back, but it still disappears when I hit 'rect pattern' or 'e'!

I know.... Igave it electron mites.  Maybe someone knows how to fumigate them?

HOW do you take a video to attach it so you can see my weird but simple?

@destinyMYUA8 Your Mac or windows should have recorders that you can record screen, app , windows etc.

Regarding the sketch is it possible the sketch visibility is off? Is it possible the sketch is too small? Does doing a zoom - fit show the sketch?

I'm hearing about screen recorders, but nobody says GO HERE!  So I'll look around some more before trying to do it on YouTube.

It will blow your mind when you see what it's doing.

If you're using Windows 10 or 11, just press 🪟+ALT+R.

That will start the built-in screen recorder. Give it a couple of seconds to start up.

When you hit the stop button, your video will be saved in c:\users\<your username here>\videos\captures.

You're super!  I don't know why I had to ask how to do it so many times.
