Fusion 360 Toolbar Icons Disappeared After April 2021 Update

Good afternoon. Since the update, I cannot see the icons in the Application Bar, Tool Bar, or the Timeline. The bars themselves are visible as grey strips and the functions are *there* and can be clicked even though they are not visible. I'm using a PC with Windows 10 Pro, 32GB RAM, and a GeForce 1660 6GB graphics card.

It just so happened that my Hobbyist/Personal licence expired today. I renewed it and the licence shows it is now valid until 2022. I don't *think* it's the cause but I thought I'd mention it in case I'm wrong about that.

So far I've tried a number of things to correct the problem but have met with no success. Things I've tried:

1. Restart Fusion 360.

2. Restart my PC.

3. Log out of Fusion 360 then Log back in. This caused the program to get stuck at the launch screen but I was able to correct that by logging into the Autodesk Desktop App and then launching Fusion 360.

4. Uninstall/reinstall Fusion 360.

5. Update my Nvidia GeForce driver to the latest version.

6. In Fusion 360, changed my video driver from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9 and even tried the OpenGL driver.

7. Uninstall/reinstall Fusion 360 using Fusion 360 Cleaner uninstall tool.

I've attached a Screencast capture of my dilemma to illustrate the problem. I'm not sure what else to try and would be grateful for suggestions.

Thanks,

Dan

I just paid for my first year of a commercial subscription, and then immediately started getting this error. I suppose it updated after I got the subscription? I had installed the trial version on April 20th, after this seems to have already been an issue, but it only started giving me this error after I actually paid for a license.

The work-around works, sort of. After I tried deleting the variable it stopped working again, and re-entering the variable gets me the same problem as FowrassEngineering, sometimes:

Other times the menus are just missing completely, not even black. If I open and close the data panel, the section over the menu remains. But then alt-tabbing a bunch makes the menus show up, eventually. Here I am hovering over the invisible fillet button:

It seems random as to whether or not it starts correctly or displays that error. Right now things are functioning correctly again. It really is ridiculous that this version is still being distributed, given the wide array of systems affected.

How will we know when a fix is available so that we can delete this system variable?

Here are my specs, in case that helps:

Fusion 360:

2.0.10143
Active Plan: Fusion 360, Subscription
Windows 10 (19042)

Graphics:

Intel® UHD Graphics 620

Adapter RAM: 1.00 GB

DirectX Version: DirectX 12

Driver:

Provider: Intel Corporation

Version: 23.20.16.4973

Date: 2/28/2018

Operating System:

Edition: Windows 10 Home
Version: 20H2
Installed on: ‎2021-‎04-‎27
OS build: 19042.928

Regards,

Nikita

Adding this environment variable:

QT_OPENGL = software

it has worked for me.

I had to "run as Administrator" fusion after I did the work arounds.

Otherwise I still get the black bars.

I am glad the work around kinda works since it is time to submit my BattleBots application...

Thanks Lance. The fix you highlighted in message 29 resolved my black bars also. Any update on when the software patch with a more permanent solution will be ready?

This has become a problem for me since the update today (28th april 2021) which. The problem therefore seems to have worsened since last time instead of improved.

Hi, this worked for me.
With the "software" variable activated. Open Fusion, although the top menu is black, with the mouse you can go to the right corner and enter user preferences. Choose DirectX 9 as the video driver.
After restarting Fusion it looks fine.

I have tried everything above.  Set System Variable QT_OPENGL = software      -   did not work

it changed the Black bar at top and bottom to a white bar.   Tried running as Admin  no change.  Went to Preferences and changed to DirectX 9 for the graphics Driver.  That didn't fix it either.  So last ditch I tried changing the graphics driver to OpenGL Core Profile.  That is now working.

Capture.PNGMeshmixer opens up after adding the QT_OPENGL variable but with a black screen just like the black tool bar.

The toolbars appeared back in the fusion360 though. .

Fusion360 seems sluggish after the update.  I've had problems getting into the tool library.  The posted fix seems hit or miss depending.  I open Fusion to have no ribbon bar to close and reopen the program to have the ribbon bar back.

Also noticed that the comments is gone.

Switching User Language to German fixed the black bar issue for me.

I have the same issue. The Toolbar is blacked out.

So I logged out and log back in, but now the log in screen is blank.

I need Fusion ASAP!!!!! I have people waiting on projects.

This fix worked for me, the toolbar was black after the latest software update.

I'm running on an old Lenovo T430 laptop with Intel core i5 processor. No dedicated graphics card.

Thanks for the Fix bro.
