Fusion 360 not exporting STEP (file system permissions on Mac)

When trying to export as STEP on mac, I get an error that says:

Translator failed to export the asset as a file: "/Users/systemdisc/Documents/3D Prints/Vader Mold v3.step"

The real error seems to be:

Error: boost::filesystem::copy_file: Operation not permitted: "/var/folders/s8/bl8q7_fx7t36lhvwlvss7pvh0000gq/T/com.autodesk.mas.fusion360/Neutron/71deb0b6-8c9a-42a1-b9c9-d510e22ebaa9.stp", "/Users/systemdisc/Documents/3D Prints/Vader Mold v3.step"

I believe this is caused by System Integrity Protection, on MacOS

I am having this same issue. I cannot export any file whatsoever. I have tried to export any of my files and none of them will. I also tried to export different file types (f3d, stp, stl) and none of them will as well. I cleared my cache three times. I also turned my computer off and back on. Fusion just recently came out with a new update. (1.40.4) I just downloaded that today. I wonder if that is the cause?

Here is the message I am getting:

Translator failed to export the asset as file: ....

I get the error as well.  Last year changing to a shorter path fixed it. But more recently ( about a month ago) it came back even with the shorter path. So based on other posts, it seems like this is still a problem.  And it is a huge hassle.

Error: boost::filesystem::copy_file: Operation not permitted: "/var/folders/8v/x3xz5qpd1f33z4k6rnz_x1vw0000gn/T/com.autodesk.mas.fusion360/Neutron/33fb5f40-ac08-4144-bd37-749c2a2333af.stp", "/Users/paulaustin/TBExports/C3/SwitchHat v11.step"

OK, found a bit of a workaround. The file is exported to the /var/folders/.... directory. It will have a name like

"c4c94301-d835-424e-946e-d2ece9b1f2f3.stp"  if you look at the time stamp, one should have been created at the time you did the export.  If you copy the file to the location you want and give it a bitter name this may work for you.  All in all, it looks like a problem that should have a simple fix, especially since Autodesk is using boost library to do the actual work.  You can import the step file to make sure you got the right one.

-Cheers

Its concerning that this hasn't been addressed. I'm still having this issue in 2019.

I do have a painful but workable solution. Upload your model to the cloud, view the model in the web viewer, and export it from there. I can confirm it works for .STEP, and several options unavailable on the desktop or available via the web viewer.

Hey Jonny,

Thanks for looking into this. I was able to find a solution. I had to do a clean uninstall. A regular uninstall didn't work. I had to use a program to delete the fusion library off of my computer and any other trace of fusion. Once I did that, I reinstalled fusion and I was once again able to export STEP files. Thanks!

Hey Christian,

This worked for me... for about 3 exports. Then back to the same old problem. I've replicated it on another machine as well. This is still a problem.

I hit the same problem trying to open a drawing I created earlier today. I get the "permission denied" message fro boost::filesystem::yadayada. The model opened fine, but not the drawing.
